Week one of the regular NFL season kicked off this weekend with a wimper - the ratings were at a 10-year low. ... Americans are fed up with athletes kneeling during the National Anthem and it showed - plenty of empty seats plagued stadiums on Sunday.
[Snip]
On Sunday, Miami Dolphins wide receivers Kenny Stills and Albert Wilson kicked off their first game one of the NFL season by taking a knee during the National Anthem and Colin Kaepernick celebrated.
The constant protests on the field are destroying the NFL.
The President slammed the NFL on Sunday for their abysmal ratings.
Wow, NFL first game ratings are way down over an already really bad last year comparison. Viewership declined 13%, the lowest in over a decade. If the players stood proudly for our Flag and Anthem, and it is all shown on broadcast, maybe ratings could come back? Otherwise worse!

Ha. I am so glad you are finished with the No Flag League. I just dont care any more.. it is mindless thugs on steroids. When the truth is revealed about steroids , it will blow your mind.
When I was a kid, nobody paid to attend a high school football game. Home town pride & seeing the kids play & the kids in the band keep up the spirits was enough for many parents who were working more than 8 hour days to be there in the bleachers.
Did you take a knee in front of your TV screen when they played the National Anthem?
Also popular in my office is the Super Bowl pool in which you buy squares and then numbers are randomly assigned on the x and y axis. One of those pools was $100 a square ($10,000 in prizes).
As for attending the games, the majority of seats are either owned by corporations or by season ticket holders. So those seats will typically not go empty as they have already been paid for. My company owns some of this seating at various arenas and when we don't have clients to go, we are giving them to employees as incentives. Same with season ticket holders, either they will go to the games themselves or they will see that somebody goes in their place.
So the real indicator of declining interest in NFL football will be the TV attendance. Anybody into Fantasy Football likely has software that will tabulate the results of their teams so there is no need for them to actually watch the games.
This whole thing about the NFL losing viewership and popularity is mostly just wishful thinking on our part.
Yeah, the numbers dropped a little last year, but not as much as we would like. Most fan just don’t care, or just shrug off the kneeling and disrespect.
The stadiums were mostly full yesterday, and are likely to remain so throughout the season.
The NFL is dead to me. I’ll never watch another game. But, I’m in the minority.
Nothing would make me happier than to see empty stadiums during the Veteran’s Day boycott, but I expect to see the stadiums full that day.
Bread and circuses.

I agree. I’ll never wear Nike again, but retired military are not their market. Their market lies in big cities, where hating America is popular.
Same with NFL football. Their market - for attendance at least - is the liberal cities, and the wealthy people who hate themselves as much as they hate America.
In most things now, it is the big cities against the rest of America. And the big cities hate everything that made America great!
Does that look like 93.9% to you?
Note almost everybody is in Red.
This is what 99.4% looks like, according to the NFL.
You’re right! Without the Kansas City fans, how many are left?
I’m for ice hockey(no kneeling) and lacrosse is a cross-over sport.
The Chargers play in a 27,000 seat soccer stadium.
Exactly! And the team owners too
I guess the business plan is to have Los Angeles spend Billions of Dollars of taxpayer money to build them an appropriately sized football palace. Bad timing on their part, since the NFL have made themselves political poison.
I would roughly guess about 85% on that part of the lower deck but would like to see the upper decks.
I loved your response - very funny. This is how I remember FR used to be, but anyway, honestly, I don’t even remember the national anthem being played. I must have been away from the TV at the time.
