CHICAGO (WLS) -- Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel announced Tuesday morning he's not running for reelection.
Emanuel made the announcement at a City Hall press conference that he will not seek reelection at the end of his term. The mayoral election will take place on Feb. 26, 2019.
"Today, the time has come to make another tough choice. As much as I love this job, and will always love this city and its residents, I've decided not to seek reelection," he said.

It means he knows he’d lose.
“Well... ‘bye.”
I just wonder if he’s planning to run for higher office?
Why? He’s doing such a bang-up job.
This is huge. If he ran, he’d win. If he’s not running, then he’s afraid to run for one reason or another.
He’s totally incompetent, and he figured it out. Quite out of character for a Marxist.
It means he effd up so bad even the Chicago machine cant get him re-elected.
The easiest way to get a job is to already have a job.
“Meet the new boss, same as the old boss.”
They always do that if they think they will lose.
Nice play on words.
It means he moving to a country that doesn’t have extradition treaties with the US.............
Maybe he’s stolen enough money, he figures he doesn’t need the headaches anymore. A couple of terms in the US Senate could be a welcome respite.
Clinton suck up. Been a dirtbag a long time. Good riddance.
Poll numbers must still be in the flusher and show that he would never win any reelection.
I have talked to any number of random people from Chicago, some of whom are hardcore Democrats, they do not like Emanuel — at all! Almost certainly the guy could never win reelection.
Post Office already lists 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue for his change of address. Wherever that place is.
I think that this over all will be BAD, very BAD for home owners in Chicago, esp downtown.
I suspect you’ll have someone succeeding him like a Harold Washington type.
The city will remain democrat. There will again be a transfer of wealth. Taxes will go up even higher than they are now.
Chicago is a toilet, an absolute toilet. I left years ago, and sold property downtown, prime property last year.
It will be years and years before the city turns around.
Careful.
When you say “Bang-up job” in Chicago everybody slams themselves to the floor. Say effective job or something.
I heard in Detroit when people hear an explosive popping sound they don’t rush to the windows to see what happened, they hit the floor.
