Meghan McCain contrasts father's legacy with Trump's 'cheap rhetoric'
CNN ^ | September 1, 2018 | Veronica Stracqualursi

Meghan McCain on Saturday presented the legacy of her father, John McCain, as a sharp contrast to the conduct of President Donald Trump, with whom the late senator bitterly feuded.

Although McCain didn't mention the President by name -- and he was not present at the service, in accordance with the late senator's wishes -- she made several unmistakable and pointed references throughout her emotional remarks.

"We gather here to mourn the passing of American greatness, the real thing, not cheap rhetoric from men who will never come near the sacrifice he gave so willingly, nor the opportunistic appropriation of those who live lives of comfort and privilege while he suffered and served," McCain told the crowd of mourners at Washington National Cathedral, which included family, friends, former presidents, military officials and foreign leaders.

"The America of John McCain has no need to be made great again, because America was always great," she said, a not-so-veiled reference to Trump's 2016 campaign slogan. The line was received with loud and sustained applause in the cathedral.

"He made the correct decision to stay away. It turned out to be the appropriate thing to do."

He didn't have to make a decision. He was not invited. NoName didn't want him at his circus.

President Trump has more important things to do and he'd rather spend time with his beloved deplorable people at a rally :)

Where to start with this...I guess the first thing is that clearly President Trump has the interests of the American People first and foremost. McCain, on the other hand, very often acted against the interests of American citizens.

The other incredibly ironic issue is talking about President Trump's "cheap rhetoric". What have often been "cheap", and more accurately "worthless", are the campaign promises of politicians. What I have come to admire and appreciate most about President Trump is that he's fulfilling his campaign promises at an incredible rate, and shows no sign of slowing down.

Let us not forget: the alternative to President Trump was Hilliary Clinton, probably the most corrupt candidate ever to run for president. Not only that, but President Trump's policy goals were, and are, vastly superior to the garbage promoted by the Democrat party. How anyone can be against President Trump strictly based on policy is beyond me.

I'm incredibly glad that I voted for President Trump in 2016, and extremely happy that he won. I think that went a long way towards stopping the decline of America which was cynically begun many decades ago, which Barack Obama greatly contributed to, and which Mrs. Clinton would have gladly continued. SHAME on all those who've supported progressivism, globalism, and the Deep State. DRAIN THE SWAMP!!!

McCain went against his own party for decades. He should have switched sides and called it a day a long time ago.

The Wellstone folks are now wishing that their Funeral leftist political rally had as many Republican Celebrities as this travesty did.

But we all knew this was coming.

And poor Aretha Franklin had her funeral hijacked by leftist politicians as well. I kinda felt sorry for her. She probably didn't want it to be that way, unlike the vile McCains and their sycophants.

A funeral that bashes the president and tells certain people in McCain’s life not to come? Why all the bitterness if he was so great?

It’s a freekin’ funeral for Pete’s sake, you talk nice things about the departed. What the hell does Trump have to do with all this? I’ll tell you, he lives in their head. What power that man has! MAGA!

The Governor would have to be insane to appoint a McCain as a replacement for that Senate seat now. As others have pointed out, the McCain clan may be aware of that fact and that serves to make their bitterness even bigger.

Arizona Patriots, your long nightmare is almost over.

This should be read at his funeral and the story told how he disgraced his country and himself:

Articles of Code of Conduct
The Code of Conduct provides guidance for the behavior and actions of members of the Armed Forces of the United States. This guidance applies not only on the battlefield, but also in the event that the service member is captured and becomes a prisoner of war (POW). The Code is delineated in six articles.

Article I:

I am an American, fighting in the forces which guard my country and our way of life. I am prepared to give my life in their defense.[3]

Article II:

I will never surrender of my own free will. If in command, I will never surrender the members of my command while they still have the means to resist.[3]

Article III:

If I am captured I will continue to resist by all means available. I will make every effort to escape and aid others to escape. I will accept neither parole nor special favors from the enemy.[3]

Article IV:

If I become a prisoner of war, I will keep faith with my fellow prisoners. I will give no information or take part in any action which might be harmful to my comrades. If I am senior, I will take command. If not, I will obey the lawful orders of those appointed over me and will back them up in every way.[3]

Article V:

When questioned, should I become a prisoner of war, I am required to give name, rank, service number and date of birth. I will evade answering further questions to the utmost of my ability. I will make no oral or written statements disloyal to my country and its allies or harmful to their cause.[3]

Article VI:

I will never forget that I am an American, fighting for freedom, responsible for my actions, and dedicated to the principles which made my country free. I will trust in my God and in the United States of America.[3]
