He may be but he’s dead on the mark about this.
I had kind of a lousy experience when I have to opportunity to meet him, but you know what… I decided over the years to cut him slack.
On the other hand, Bob Hoover was the most amazing man to me… Personable, friendly… We hung around with him For about 20 minutes, and talking to him is like talking to an old friend!
But I am glad to hear Yeager come out on the record about Neil Armstrong.
Buddy and I were jogging and this old lady was watering her yard in a California summer - buddy said, there’s a drought you know she said “go to hell - I’m 80 years old”
She was correct.

I often find folks declaring such and so, and when asked about their bona fides, they squirm a lot while trying to find an answer.
Like folks who say “we oughta go kick their butts” regarding some foreign affair, but when the onion is peeled back a bit, that guy never even tasted his own bloody lip yet is telling other men to go do something deadly.
General Yeager wasn’t one of those types.

However, he can be an ahole ANYTIME as he’s pro American and the first to break the sound barrier. i know a lot of assholes who talk the talk but dont walk the walk but Chuck does..

He’s signed thousands of autographs for free. “Total Aholes” don’t do that.
I was stationed at Edwards AFB back in the late 80s. An air show was coming up and he was scheduled to do a low level almost supersonic pass by the crowd. That week we were told that the General wants to drop some bombs ( practice types ). So we launched and recovered his F-4 ( was a D model IIRC ) like any other plane. Got back to our shop and was told the the General says thanks. He didn’t have to call. We jumped back in our truck and went to the section where General Yeager was but just missed him.
I have heard that too.
His book was really interesting tho. I saw an interview with another famous test pilot who said Yeager was the best “stick and rudder” man he had ever seen.
I wonder who the German FW-190 pilot was who shot his down? He had great bragging rights.

Here Chuck Yeager is sticking up for the good guys and someone sticks a shiv in him on the second comment. Based on gossip. Way to go.
With his record, he has the right to be a perfect a$$hole. He has done more for aviation and the military than 98% of the non-a$$holes in this country.
My father was his crew chief while in the Air Force and never mentioned anything about Yeager one way or the other. In any case, Yeager knew Armstrong and Gosling didn’t. One can be both a humble person and a proud American at the same time, which Gosling apparently doesn’t comprehend.
