A proposal to rename the Senate's oldest office building for John McCain ran into resistance Tuesday from Republican senators reluctant to take away an honor already bestowed on an earlier Senate titan and a leader of Southern senators during a tumultuous era in the nation's history.
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, looking to defuse a budding controversy, said he will form a bipartisan panel to solicit ideas on the best way to honor the late Arizona senator.
McCain "meant so much to so many of us inside this chamber and out," McConnell said Tuesday in a speech on the Senate floor. "The Senate is eager to work on concrete ways to continue this momentum and provide a lasting tribute to this American hero long after this week's observances are complete."
Besides the proposal to rename the Russell Senate Office building, lawmakers may consider naming a room used by the Senate Armed Services Committee after McCain, who was the panel's chairman, McConnell said. Another idea is to add McCain's portrait to a reception room right off the Senate floor, joining such giants as Henry Clay, Daniel Webster and Robert Taft. Only seven senators are honored with portraits there.

How about a portrait of Cindy McCain titled “C*** and Painted Wh*re”, after all, that’s what he called her. That portrait would best capture what MCCain was really all about.
One portrait isn’t enough. Every entrance should have a doormat where McCain’s likeness welcomes you. People will not be able to enter/exit the building without thinking about him. What higher honor could there be?
And his likeness should be proudly displayed at the bottom of every toilet and urinal in the building.
People will be able to get pleasure from McCain many times a day which they were not able to do while he lived.
An Arleigh Burke-class destroyer is a pretty impressive warship. Nothing to be ashamed of there. For a Naval aviator who made it to the U.S. Senate and was nominated by his party for President of the United States, this sounds pretty good. Supposedly, it was named for Senator McCain’s father and grandfather, but the curtain was lifted on the ship’s re-christianing, as it should have been. Maybe Senator Kerry, who was a captain of a patrol boat who similarly made good, should be similarly honored when that time comes. As for aircraft carriers, I think they should be reserved for Navy boys who made it to the Presidency, like the USN George H.W. Bush. Rank does have its privileges.
BTW There are other naming criteria.
Why not just let Arizona do the honoring? I like the idea of Senate Building but perhaps American Citizens Senate Building might make the point a bit stronger.
How about splash guards in all the urinals with McCain’s face emblazoned on them?
These guys really do a lot of play acting. Either give every dead senator a picture on the wall or take them all down and just do a group photo and frame it for class this and class that. So many other options than paying for the expense of indulging in these time wasting games.
A unrinal shall suffice. A!l McDemocRat all the time till it’s 6 ft under...F*ck CATV news ...
Senate Republicans need to attach a bill renaming the building in McCain’s name to a bill fully funding the wall.

Here you go, this place will print McCain’s face on urinal splash guards.
How about the John Sidney McCain Memorial Restroom?
“I’ll be back, have to take a McCain....”
Good job, I should have read all the responses first. :-)
What in the hell did McCain do that even compares to the three men listed. The only major piece of legislation I know McCain was behind was McCain-Feingold eviscerating the 1st Amendment. He was nothing but a self-promoter and media creation.
Lets call it: “We work for Billions”
How about we just do nothing?
That was my thought, too. Both he & Obama could have bathroom stalls or maybe even just toilet seats named after them.
