(CNSNews.com) - President Trump on Wednesday congratulated Republican Rep. Ron DeSantis for winning his party's gubernatorial primary in Florida, but Trump slammed the Democrat primary winner, Tallahassee Mayor Andrew Gillum, as a "failed socialist."
Trump's comments came shortly after CNN interviewed Gillum, asking him if he thinks Trump should be impeached.
"I absolutely do," Gillum replied. "I think he's already incriminated himself by interfering with the Department of Justice, firing Jim Comey of whom I'm no fan of, but basically obstructing justice. And ever since that time, he's only driven deeper down a pretty deep hole, not only for himself but for this country."
Minutes later, Trump returned the favor, tweeting:
Not only did Congressman Ron DeSantis easily win the Republican Primary, but his opponent in November is his biggest dream....a failed Socialist Mayor named Andrew Gillum who has allowed crime & many other problems to flourish in his city. This is not what Florida wants or needs!
Gillum told CNN he is not running on a platform of impeachment but is instead focused on the needs of "everyday" Floridians who can't make ends meet at the end of the month.
"I’m running on a platform that says we're going to create opportunity for everyday Floridians," Gillum said.
That platform includes abolishing Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), and assigning those responsibilities to the Justice Department -- "an entity that has not been tarnished the way ICE has," Gillum said.
Gillum is promising Medicare for all, saying, "I am a champion for treating health care as a right, not a privilege."
He is for "paying teachers" and legislating higher wages so people don't have to work multiple jobs. "If you're working multiple jobs and you're not making ends meet, you're not happy," Gillum said.
According to his campaign website, "Andrew supports the legalization of marijuana in order to generate new revenue to pay for teacher and instructional staff pay increases and to reduce the mass incarceration of people with low-level drug offenses."
Gillum is a gun control advocate. And he said he will "focus on making college debt free and encouraging businesses to share responsibility for educating the workforce they want to hire."
On CNN Wednesday, Gillum even mentioned the toxic algae blooms that are currently plaguing Florida. It's not clear how he would solve that problem, although he does believe in climate change and he is calling for Florida’s transition to “clean energy” as rapidly as possible.
Some of Gillum's platform may sound familiar. Democrat-Socialist Alexandria Ocasio Cortez, a congressional candidate from New York, is saying many of the same things.
John Berman, host of CNN's "New Day," noted that Gillum's challenger Ron DeSantis is using Gillum's platform against him, saying Gillum is trying to turn Florida into Venezuela.
Gillum said DeSantis is doing the bidding of "big business and big lobbyists and Donald Trump," while Gillum plans to "build a Florida that makes room for all of us, not just some of us."

The workforce they want to hire???? When I was an employer I wanted to hire people with some practical education, not a bunch of snowflakes with a degree in French literature or gender studies. Stop spending a dime on four year worthless degrees and start making the vo techs the place to be.
