It wasn't until recent years that I found myself in opposition to John McCain. The once "maverick" and "hawk" was anything but. He became a bought and paid for politician that had many in his own Party, turning on him. If it wasn't enough to learn about the numerous donations from George Soros linked businesses to his campaigns, with the rise of Donald Trump, we saw a very bitter and embattled man, who lashed out in policy decisions from what appeared to be his own personal issues.
Trump did what McCain could not. Trump went on the attack - even brutally at times - and got away with it. Trump transformed the Republican Party during his run for the White House and worst of all for McCain, Trump now occupies the White House, which McCain never achieved.

Sadly in this case they are. They only see that POS through the prism of him being a vet and a POW. There was a time I too honored his service in uniform to this country. He used and abused that to the point I lost all respect for the POS. He never gave me a reason to change my mind. On the contrary; he reinforced it over and over and over. Good riddance. Spit.
Because if he didn’t the Media would go 24/7 about how POTUS Trump dissed the VFW and other Veteran Groups with the intention to erode his Support.
Besides, it will be forgotten with the next Muellar Bombshell Indictment News.
Wasn’t Benedict Arnold a War Hero?
Marshall Pétain was also a War Hero.
It’s a big picture kind of thing.
Trump knows McCain was a total a-hole. I believe that as well.
But as much as it sucks to contemplate the idea, Trump needed to hold back on this one. He gained no points (though he was completely with in the law to do so) by putting the flag up at full staff after two days.
And perhaps you’ll argue “He doesn’t owe McCain anything”. And you’re right. I believe that as well.
Or perhaps you’ll argue that there’s nothing he could have done that would have made the MSM happy. And you’re right. I believe that as well.
But by not extending the period the flag was at half staff didn’t do Trump any favors and at least in some voters eyes, it appeared a bit petty.
After hearing about McCain’s death, Trump should have issued a quick press release saying “Gosh, we’re so sorry to hear about John’s passing. What a terrible thing. White House flags will remain at half staff ‘til after the funeral” and then move on to more important things than the passing of a pain in the butt Senator from Arizona.
So he was so insensitive that he didn’t realize that by not following the same flag courtesy he gave the Barbara Bush and others he wouldn’t get media criticism?
Indeed.
Did the American Legion and VFW care this much when Jeremiah Denton passed away?
There are liberals in those organizations, too.
McCain was never a statesman, he was never Presidential material which is why his pinnacle was simply to be nominated to run, For all his decades in government he had no earth shattering legislation, he can’t point to any foreign affairs accomplishments other than his demands to be heard under some make believe assumption that he was a foreign policy expert which would be expected from barely being able to graduate given his poor academics.
In short, he was merely an elected official who enjoyed perks and power - hardly anyone who deserves all this pomp and circumstance.
He simply was “The Name You Know” (to borrow from the movie, ‘The Distinguished Gentleman’)
Yes, there are liberals in those organizations. Are those organizations by their nature liberal organizations?
Can't say.
I have called him 'lord' McCain for years, because he acted like he was 'royalty'... House of Lords type mentality... This turkey attempted to get his POW/MIA buddy, JFKerry to put him on his presidential ticket. Not even God loves 'lord' McCain as much as lord McCain, loved himself. Trump is the only person in this jerk's life that took him down to ground level ...
'lord' McCain despised conservatives, more than even the demonic liberals. He sic'ed the IRS on 'tea party' conservatives .. he attempted to end speech for conservatives... He was one vile small handed man.
>>>So he was so insensitive that he didnt realize that by not following the same flag courtesy he gave the Barbara Bush and others he wouldnt get media criticism?<<<
I have no idea.
All I know is as soon as Veteran Groups got involved in this the Media was salivating. POTUS Trump handled it well as far as I’m concerned and his Statement was clear and concise.
Give it a day and another so called Trump scandal will dominate the Fake News.
Sometimes I wonder if they aren't manufactured by the WH.
He did the right thing. I am not fond of what McCain’s actions or decisions while he lived, but I don’t expect Trump to be deliberately bitter. Be polite and let the haters lose their minds even more.
Which is what his proclamation did today. Half staff until the day after interment. You can claim he 'caved', which, if you've been paying attention, the POTUS doesn't do, or he did the minimum necessary as C-in-C.
How many people here on FR can tell us how many sailors DIED when McCain crashed his fighter jet on the USS Forestall ???
How many planes were destroyed in that same crash on the aircraft carrier?
McCain crashed more than one military plane.
He was Inept
Bitter
Petty
Vindictive
Liar
Thief —— S & L scandal
Nasty -—towards other POW wives AND SARAH PALIN
Unrepentant-— about being unfaithful to 1st wife
Traitor-—the Steele Dossier he had a hand in
Not one good thing I can say about him. Thousands of people lost their home in the Keating 5 scandal.
When Trump releases those 45,000 sealed indictments, it will be SHOCK & AWE all over again....On this continent.
I would agree. Until yesterday.
