John McCain, the longtime senator and 2008 GOP presidential candidate who refused to leave fellow prisoners of war behind to escape years of torture in Vietnam, and whose maverick streak as Arizona’s senior statesman at times frustrated fellow Republicans and confounded President Donald Trump, has died, his family confirmed in a statement Saturday.
He was 81and had been diagnosed with brain cancer in July 2017.
McCain had decided to discontinue medical treatment for the glioblastoma, an aggressive form of brain cancer, his family announced on Aug. 24. He had surpassed expectations for his survival, but "the progress of disease and the inexorable advance of age render their verdict," the statement said.

Suffice it to say, I will not shed a tear over the man. Any heroics he may have done were vastly overshadowed by all that came after.

Sympathy to his family, but I don’t want to see any of them handed that seat either.

Other than those who say it was a cover-up for an Admiral's son, I've seen NO evidence he had anything to do with it. IIRC, it was an error by the Red Shirts (ordnance) or a mechanical failure in the missile arming system. However, McCain turned out to be a uni-party RINO a-hole.
Amongst other non-conservative votes, his last middle finger to us was the deciding vote on the repeal of Obamacare. Screw him and all his cross-aisle votes. Then there was the Keating 5, but why go on since his back-stabbing history is all over the threads of his death.
