John McCain, the longtime senator and 2008 GOP presidential candidate who refused to leave fellow prisoners of war behind to escape years of torture in Vietnam, and whose maverick streak as Arizona’s senior statesman at times frustrated fellow Republicans and confounded President Donald Trump, has died, his family confirmed in a statement Saturday.
He was 81and had been diagnosed with brain cancer in July 2017.
McCain had decided to discontinue medical treatment for the glioblastoma, an aggressive form of brain cancer, his family announced on Aug. 24. He had surpassed expectations for his survival, but "the progress of disease and the inexorable advance of age render their verdict," the statement said.

Actually, glad this happened today so the media can get it out of their system on the Sunday shows (who am I kidding?!).
It’s going to be utterly sickening watching those Congress vermin pontificate on what a great man and hero McCain was. Are they going to cry crocodile tears? Is Chuckie going to demand that the Supreme Court vote be postponed so they can “properly mourn” the great fallen hero?

Not that there was ever any doubt, and indeed, as many have already expressed here, she is a far better person than I. He could’ve left this world saying nothing about her, and perhaps he flapped his gums because his meds were impacting him that way, but his final comments regarding her have been bitter for me.
