Attorney General Jeff Sessions was scheduled to visit the prison at Guantanamo Bay in Cuba on Friday to get a firsthand look at the facility.
Sessions was to be joined on his tour by Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, The Hill reported.
Sessions has defended the detention facility. He said in March there is no legal reason not to send newly captured terrorism suspects there, according to The Hill.
"Keeping this country safe from terrorists is the highest priority of the Trump administration," Ian Prior, Department of Justice spokesman said.

How long can a white hat possibly stay white while working in a hot, muddy swamp?
You should have been a comedian.
U so funny.
Any excuse to keep from doing his real job.
Wasn’t Sessions fired by Bill Clinton?
Back in 92?
His lane of functionality wasn’t being a senator then was it?
Moe like he’s looking to lock up those who support President Trump.
Keep him.
That was William Steele Sessions, who served as a United States District Judge of the United States District Court for the Southern District of Texas. Clinton dismissed him in ‘93.
The indicted will be Gitmo’d because all are flight risks.
Sessions is makeing a final assessment of the security of the location for such high level prisioners.
This is the most important period in American history
The game being played is for all the marbles forever
(Based on the Manafort precedent, the hillary indictment can include 30,000 counts. One for each e mail)
Can we show Rod his cell and leave him there?
Awesome news...
past time for him to crap or get off the pot...
We did trust him and he ran out the clock. It is now the 11th hour, and extreme action is necessary.
My God I hope and Pray you are Correct
So, Jeff Sessions, a US attorney for southern district of Alabama, was fired by Bill Clinton in 1993.
And I believe he was attorney general of Alabama.
Are those two lanes of functionality for Jeff full of potholes?
I’ve been hoping for that, but frankly it’s beginning to look like that might just be BS. Very disappointed that there isn’t any action going on. I applaud your faith.
I remember Q said after Helsinki they’d drop the dime on the Uranium One conspirators. They didn’t want to do it before, because they didn’t want a cloud over the meetup with Putin. But supposedly they would let it all out right after Helsinki.
So, I keep waiting. When does it all come out?
One can certainly hope. There are obviously a lot of things going on behind the scenes that were not privy to, but damn, how long must justice wait?*****
Till there are honest people in the justice department who can, and WILL carry out the laws of the land. Once those numbers are reached, THEN they can move to prosecute. Obviously, those in place until now aren’t willing to do their jobs. And that is why the push is on to eliminate Trump.
If they eliminate Trump, and install HRC, the whole thing gets swept under the rug, and justice will never be served.
You cannot dismantle an entire government in one fell sweep. We are all chomping at the bit to see justice served, bit it’s a process. I call it “hurry up and wait”. It’s also a rollercoaster. Some say “enjoy the show”, bit I say enjoy the ride, because it’s a wild ride with twists, quick turns, and whip lash.
What does the FBI/DOJ have on Sessions that is keeping him in a post that his boss doesn’t want him? He is essentially a checkmate piece by the corrupt deep state to prevent Trump from replacing him with someone who would investigate them and the roles they played in 2016.
