Target CEO...This is the best consumer environment 'I've seen in my career'

Consumer spending is back and has never been better as far as Target CEO Brian Cornell is concerned.

"There's no doubt that, like others, we're currently benefiting from a very strong consumer environment — perhaps the strongest I've seen in my career," Cornell told analysts on a call Wednesday.

The retailer's shares are surging after reporting fiscal second-quarter results that beat on earnings, revenue and comparable store sales. Just when many investors have written off brick-and-mortar retailers in the era of Amazon, Target is seeing a huge jump in foot traffic.

"We're seeing a great consumer response ... unprecedented traffic. As we go back and look, we've never seen traffic growth like this," Cornell said Wednesday morning on CNBC's "Squawk Box."

Turned it over to Watson. Apparently it's as good at that as it is in prescribing cancer treatments.

Shop at Target.

Pay $7 for something you can get at Wal-Mart for $2.99.

To avoid Walmart I’d pay the extra $4.00.

Imagine what Target’s numbers would be if they weren’t so fixated on Social Justice and appeasing the homosexual lobby.

The nearest store to me by many miles is target, which is walking distance. Haven’t been there in years.

Target has been on my ban list for years so they are seeing high profits with my dollar.

Despite what you think about Target's Leftist stances, they ARE doing financially very well (the store nearest my home is undergoing a major renovation to be more shopper friendly).

I vastly prefer my neighborhood Target to Walmart. Target is clean, always stocked, and full of normal suburban shoppers. My neighborhood Walmart is always dirty, empty shelves in disarray, and full of ghetto people and trailer trash with neck tattoos. Most of the shopping carts are broken, there's litter everywhere, and people get robbed in the parking lot.

I'll take Target, even if the bill is a little higher. And, no, I've never had my children accosted by trannies in the restrooms.

+1

My blood pressure skyrockets after ten minutes in Walmart.

Same here. I haven’t been in a Target since their bathroom decision.

Ask Walmart what their policies on trannies in the restrooms are. They won't tell you but here's a hint; it's the exact same as Target's, and every other nationwide store in the country.

“Ask Walmart what their policies on trannies in the restrooms are. They won’t tell you”

Unlike Target that blasted their approval for men to go in women’s dressing rooms to the world.

Even Home Depot and Best Buy aggravate me with their size and I almost never go into them.
It’s been sinking in to me lately that the advice you can get at a hardware store can very easily be worth the extra money you might pay for merchandise.

The credit Obama for it so yes, they will vote D.

Until something negative happens with the economy then it's Trump's credit.

One thing I've heard is that Target is seriously considering supporting NFC-based Apple Pay and Android Pay fairly soon. It appears that customers are demanding it and Target may just provide it, since it appears their current terminals are likely ready for it.

Pay $7 for something you can get at Wal-Mart for $2.99.

And have some freak next to you in the women's dressing room.

I usually avoid Target, but when I do go and my daughter uses the restroom, I stand guard outside the door.
