Shooting a warning show with a rifle in a rural setting during daytime is different than doing so in a crowded urban setting at night.

Somebody’s clutching at their pearls: firing down into ground with a .22 or a shotgun with birdshot pretty well nullifies the energy and therefore the danger to bystanders.

She did the right thing and I hope they catch the pervert before the idiot runs into somebody with less patience and good aim.

Was it an Assault .22 rifle, that is dangerous looking, and able to be quickly converted to fully automatic, that fires 300 rounds every time you pull the trigger?

"Benham was busy trying to get her three small dogs back inside when she noticed the man was touching himself inappropriately outside his clothes."

She should trade in her three small dogs for one big one.

The pervy perp was touching himself. Appropriately, the woman used her “snake rifle.” Had there been a second shot, a fair idea of where she may have aimed.

The situation may have been alarming. It did not appear to be life-threatening.

Says the writer safely behind his desk. It's not like sex perverts like the formerly living Ted Bundy didn't rape then kill his victims. The woman did the right thing. Aside from some dead worms, nobody was injured.

I believe it was 1950 and I was only a few months old, Pop was fighting a fire in the Umatilla National Forest and my Mom and all us kids were at the house below the fire tower. Mom and my siblings verified the story and Pop found the bear outside the house. Mom was fixing dinner and a black bear decided to see what was cooking. Mom was at the sink when the bear decided to come through the kitchen window. Mom grabbed an old Winchester model 62 Pop kept in the rack and started dumping rounds into it. Pop found it about 100 yards from the house with 8 rounds in the head and neck area.

It worked out alright. That's good. On the mention of ricochets, slow rounds are more likely to ricochet, although other variables can affect ricochet potential (material hit, bullet construction, etc.).

.22 Long Rifle
Wikipedia
Performance [Excerpt]
Ricochets are more common in .22 LR projectiles than for more powerful cartridges as the combination of unjacketed lead and moderate velocities allows the projectile to deflect – not penetrate or disintegrate – when hitting hard objects at a glancing angle. A .22 LR can ricochet off the surface of water at a low angle of aim. Severe injury may result to a person or object in the line of fire on the opposite shore, several hundred yards away.[18]

After the bullet glanced off of the water, its remaining velocity was 1195 fps. Only 43 fps were lost... The missile remains lethal after a ricochet.

I'm not much concerned about the welfare of the stalker in the case behind the article, though. I don't see her brandishing and warning the alleged stalker as being a problem at all from the story described, although she should have saved her ammunition. I wouldn't have blamed her for shooting an attacker (as described) advancing toward her after a verbal warning.

She should have shot it off. That would have been instructional.

Should have read:
“As his remarks became MORE LEWD”

“Warning shots have some negative potential. The bullet has to go somewhere. In a tense situation, the shooter may not be certain the shot.”

All perverts (and other criminals) should heed this wise counsel.

Our secular, lawless culture is creating sexually out-of-control males like this perp, acting more and more like the zombies of the Walking Dead. Glad I’m armed.

I love Marlin 60’s, I have 8 myself.
The older ones hold 18 rounds in the tubular magazine.
With practice, all 18 rounds can be put in a target in about 3.5 seconds.
Extremely accurate and fast.

Guess we have to ban them, too...../s

She will be fortunate if he doesn’t engage some slimy lawyer to file a lawsuit against her.

Either way - he will recover and return to his vile ways.

She should have put a round through his eye into the brain housing unit.

Sometimes the warning shot is effective. I probably would have done the same thing in broad daylight. At night not so much.
