Special Counsel Robert Mueller recommended in a court filing on Friday that a judge sentence former Trump campaign aide George Papadopoulos to up to six months in prison for lying to federal agents investigating whether Russia interfered in the 2016 U.S. presidential election.
Papadopoulos pleaded guilty in October to lying to FBI agents and is scheduled to be sentenced on Sept. 7.
According to Mueller’s sentencing memorandum to the judge, Papadopoulos lied about his contacts with people who claimed to have ties to top Russian officials, including his meeting with a professor who said Russia had “dirt” on Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton.
“The defendant’s crime was serious and caused damage to the government’s investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election,” Mueller’s memo said. …

Mueller rounded up names of indicted Russians who refuse to come back here to be tried so they are free. Gee, like Eliot Ness. What a G-Man hero.
Then he tore apart Manafort’s home and threw family photos and loved ones’ mementos on the floors and tossed clothes there to terrify his family, and put him in solitary confinement while killers get probation and plea bargains in Chicago and Detroit.
Now he has terrorized the coffee boy Papadopoulos and confused him into accidentally lying by repeating his testimony with errors.
What a big, big man that Mueller is. Someone needs to cut him down to his real stature: a midget with a huge ego.
Nothing he did was illegal. Mueller just set a perjury trap for him and he walked into it. This is why Trump will never submit to questioning by Mueller. Trump will happily play rope-a-dope with Mueller over the issue though.
Trump’s opportunity to set the record straight with a pardon. Robert Mueller will get the idea of where his cases are going...nowhere and Paul Manafort has NO REASON TO Cooperate. CASE CLOSED. End of Witch hunt.
He was set up from the get go. He should get no time and should not have even been charged.
I’d like to know why it’s ‘illegal’ for John Q. Public to “lie” to the FBI but it isn’t “illegal” for the FBI to lie to John Q. Public.
