BRISTOL, CONN. ESPN will not show the national anthem during "Monday Night Football" broadcasts this year, the company's president said on Friday
Pitaro was asked by a reporter if he spoke to the NFL about the rule changes and the national anthem and if he would consider turning the cameras on an athlete thats kneeling for the anthem.
"We generally have not broadcasted the anthem and I don't think theres going to be any change this year. Our plan going into this year is to not broadcast the anthem, Pitaro said.
Again, there could be changes. Its somewhat unpredictable whats going to happen in the world but as of now our plan now is to not broadcast the anthem. We have communicated that back to the NFL. They have not asked but we proactively just as a courtesy and as good partners let them know what our plans are, he continued.
The network also did not air the national anthem during last seasons "Monday Night Football" broadcasts.
Stephanie Druley, ESPNs senior vice president of event and studio production, said the network showed the national anthem three times last year: following Hurricane Harveys devastation, the Las Vegas massacre and President Trumps comments on the national anthem protests.

Check out “The Man who would be King” Based on a Rudyard Kipling story with Sean Connery and Michael Caine. Great movie
College players don’t stand for the anthem either, they’re in the locker room.
Better Call Saul !
I remember back when it came out. Didn’t see it. Thanks fo r the heads-up.
Shoot, I’d much rather watch “Every Which Way But Loose” than an NFL game. Clips from that movie crack me up. Saw it in the theaters way back when.
Yeah, that’ll fix the problem....(/s)
That’s alright because I won’t be airing them.
I only like American football. Dont have time to waste watching anti American foot ball.
It’s like a homeless bum cursing me out in one breath, then demanding I give him money in the next.
Get. A. Real. Job...
So, ESPN took a knee.
Disney telling America to GFI
I won’t either, nor any other time...Goodbye ESPN!
I'm getting grief from my kids. I am not participating in our family 'Fantasy Football' league this year. I have been the dominant force - winning 5 of the last 10 seasons. The big thing is to beat me.
But I will do nothing to support the NFL, even tangentially.

The NFL has Non Profit Status with the IRS. Anyone want to see that taken away from them. I Sure do. I hope Potus does it now.
Ops4
I can’t believe so many FReepers are applauding this move. It’s the epitome of cutting off your nose to spite your face.
This is exactly what the left wanted.
Smooth move Bob Iger. Ahole
Michael Vick's new show on ESPN?
F ESPN. And to the National Felons Leagues.

I hear ya. Don’t blame ya.
I won the NCAA bracket at work one year. At a church organization.
Nobody bothered to congratulate me because I was the resident Bible-thumper / Bible Prophecy guy, LOL.
It’s O.K. I can shake the dust off my feet, no problem.
They will not rest until the NFL achieves the same status a roller derby. Good luck you clowns.
