One might be inclined to question their airlift capability and general mobility.

And yes, it would seem that they might be wanting to get some of their guys some game time, so to speak.

Yes, China is primarily expanding economically, and has been spending large amounts of money building ports and other infrastructure in countries they then develop a special relationship with. It’s part of the Road & Belt Policy to build a new Chinese economic network all the way to Europe.

The U.S. is being outflanked by China at every level, and still all we can focus on is the has-been Russians. China is the real threat, not the Russians. They have already surpassed us economically by several measures, and have several times the population we do. They effectively also grabbed control of the South China Sea during the Obama administration, and we are basically SOL in that part of the world now.

I hear all these comments about China not having the technological capacity. Does anyone just stop for a moment to think about how much of the world’s technological products are actually made in China now? They have all that technology in their pockets now, and then some. Just start thinking about all the Chinese chips and parts that are now in OUR military equipment.

Yep. They have no idea whether their tactics or weapons work. Everything they have exported has been copies of Soviet technology.

The biggest threat to China is Russia and the biggest threat to Russia is China.

Do you know who is mining Rare Earth Elements in Afghanistan? Do you know who owns the US’ only mine for Rare Earth Elements?

BTW, Trump was President in June 2017 when California’s Mountain Pass mine sold.

If you are going to invite a cobra into your house to take care of the rat problem, then you better be sure you have a mongoose.

They don’t have any qualms about razing the entire area. No winning hearts and minds bullshit.

I think most Syrians would see the US as the Cobra, and Russia, and Iran as the mongoose. The US exploited the Kurds dream of Rojava to fight against the Assad Government, but realized that was not to their benefit, and have agreed to reconcile with the legitimate Government of Syria.

A couple of years ago I was on a tour to China. They took us up to the observation floor near the top of the “Bottle Opener” building in Shanghai. It has a glass floor where you actually look directly down on Shanghai. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shanghai_World_Financial_Center (As an aside, it also has an extremely high tech elevator system where the elevators actually move sideways and then up at certain levels.)

From that floor you look right down on the Huangpu River which flows through Shanghai. What amazes you is the amount of commerce you see. There is a non-stop stream of boats, ships and barges going in both directions, for as far as you can see. The economic activity in China is unbelievable.

Indeed. In fact Assad and Russia killed about 3 times more civilians than IsIS and still counting, as a means to increase waves of migrants to Turkey/Europe

Iran?

OK.

Let me clarify.

Make sure you have a live mongoose.

Iran is a dead skunk.

I think some people still think China is something out of an old Pearl Buck novel. They are producing anything, and everything.

OK, so the other part of this that drives me crazy is the prevalent U.S. media view that portrays the average Chinese citizen as somehow ignorant and brainwashed, not having a clue what is going on in the outside world, and totally dependent on what they get from the government (somehow like North Korea).

Nothing could be further from the truth. For example, I read an article that says that more than 10% of the Chinese population now goes abroad for tours and vacations each year. (And the article points out, they all VOLUNTARILY GO BACK, e,g, they obviously don’t feel oppressed in their country.) The fact is, all Chinese are exposed continuously to ideas and media from the rest of the world. You turn on Chinese TV and there are 30 or 40 stations all going on—not surprisingly a large number of them are about economic matters and investment—and you also have C-dramas and variety shows (their version of amateur performance like “China’s Got Talent”) and everything else. Sure there is censorship, but a lot of that is aimed at “bad stuff,” inappropriate material for families and children, that encourage crime, etc. We used to do the same thing in the U.S.

And about the fact they live under a one-party state? I would say the vast number of Chinese don’t care. So long as life is going well and their economic situation continues to improve, they support their government, and they don’t waste their time having stupid divisive arguments such as consume our country and distract us from the fact the the U.S. is going bankrupt.

I am not saying they are better than us, but I am saying the U.S. seriously, seriously underestimates the strength of China and its people.
