In the latest efforts to rectify America's history of its slaveholding past, Austins Equity Office suggested that the Texas capital change its entire name in addition to removing statues and street signs in honor of Confederate soldiers.
Austin, TX is named after Stephen F. Austin. The man, now known as the "father of Texas," one time "opposed an attempt by Mexico to ban slavery in the province of Tejas and said if slaves were freed, they would turn into 'vagabonds, a nuisance, and a menace," as reported by mystatesman.com.
And for this, Austin's Equity Office recommended in a recent report that its name should be changed among many other street names. The report also stated that several parks and places should be altered as well. "Pease Park, the Bouldin Creek neighborhood, Barton Springs and 10 streets named for William Barton, the Daniel Boone of Texas, who was a slave owner," were among the list.

Where is all this going? Jail anybody who has a last name that once belonged to a slaveholder?
This is nothing more than expansion of White Guilt.
Under $6K to make the street-name changes. Dream on.
The time is here to fight back on these loonies. Our history is important. These people are not.
So far it seems they always get their way.
The best thing that could happen to this world, this country in particular, is if all the leftists magically melted and flowed down into the sewer drains where they belong.
Then all this lunacy would finally stop.
Get their way just like the *gbtqpxyz” idiots.
How about we dismantle the Democrap party being that Democraps are the ones who owned slaves? Disqualify them from ever holding political office again as a form of reparations.
Nah, they just don't sound right.
Maybe the Democrats should change their party name....due to “slaveholding past”, ‘n stuff.
Nothing says “slaveholders” like the word, “democrat”.
Just find a black guy named “Austin” and say it’s named after him.
That’s what King County (Seattle) did. They just decided it was no longer named after the white guy, but after Martin Luther King.
No suggestion was given for a new name, is Santayana in the running?
That should be done the day after they rip and tear down everything in West Virginia that has anything to do with Senator Robert Carlyle Byrd, KKK Kleagle, and Klan recruiter, . . . and I mean EVERYTHING.
“...if slaves were freed, they would turn into ’vagabonds, a nuisance, and a menace,”...”
Well in some cities that case can be made. As General “Old Jube” Early said, “What a gentle institution slavery must have been to have so well prepared the Negro for the ballot box.”
These suppressors of history need to be introspective enough to see their own contemporary racism instead of always harping about yesterday.
PING

Snowflake, Texas ... sounds about right.
Better yet, just move all the libs to/back to Californica.
It is $6k for new street signs, and $10 million (random guess) for the businesses to redo signs, stationery , ads, forms. etc.. so basically free to the government, and what do they care. soak the rich businesses!
