China has no idea how to play Trump, and is doing what it always does when it smells trouble
South China Morning Post ^ | 07/27/2018 | Fraser Howie

Thanks to US President Donald Trump and his “America first” policy, the global economic and trade outlook perhaps has never been so uncertain. Nowhere are these economic and policy shock waves being felt more than in China. And, Beijing is responding the same way it does every time it anticipates trouble – by pumping cash into its system. … Pumping more money into an already bloated economy may have worked in the past, but the Chinese may find out that indeed this time really is different.

Tell them you’re impounding all of their shipments to Walmart, and civil unrest will break out two weeks later.

Trump is in a “Can’t Lose” position. He know it. China doesn’t.
Which means China will lose especially badly.

Trump is in a “Can’t Lose” position.

That would be true if the senate was at least slightly behind him. But the senate is undermining Trump at every turn.

Trump understands that the Chinese economy is very vulnerable and cannot win a trade war with the US. They cannot stand the economic disruptions that could cascade to social and political instability.

The senate threw them crumbs last night. As soon as China comes to the table all of that will be taken care of.

What is there to play, there is no secret, this is his job and this is who he is and what he does.

I think the great thing about Trump imposing tariffs on China albeit right now it is only a fraction of all exports to China is that it has led to a screeching halt of investment in China by American companies anticipating uncertainty and hopefully it will lead to a global halt in investment there.
Would not be surprised to see Apple starting to consider moving a piece of their huge manufacturing operation in China to India. Love to see China, America’s biggest threat, implode

Xi's plans for a 1000 year Middle Kingdom Reich may end much more quickly than he thinks.

The US is in a much stronger position, simply because of the trade deficit, and because there is nothing made in China we can't make ourselves or source elsewhere, and because we have the natural resources China doesn't.

Especially if Trump's deal with Juncker winds up with the EU and the US taking a coordinated position vis a vis China, Xi is screwed.

It's called winning.

“Burn, Baby, Burn??? “

That’s their plan.

However, eventually comes the debt deflation. Something their newbie economists have not likely studied.

In a country of 1.3 billion people it will be horrific. The stuff wars are made of.

The entire Congress!

Especially the Republicans. You know, the people you’re going to vote for in November.

China can end this easily. Just get rid of tariffs on imported goods.

“China can end this easily. Just get rid of tariffs on imported goods.”

Not enough.

They must float their currency on the world exchanges with no peg.

“Maybe we could vote for Democrats and make it even better.”

If you ever want to see positive change in the Congress, you must burn the current Republican party to the ground.

Re-build after.

And that means you must unelect them. All of them.

A single two year cycle of no office would do it. But people FEARFULLY continue to vote for the traitors and enemies in the hope that the other traitors and enemies will not attain office.

It’s laughable.
