Markeis McGlockton and Michael Drejka both overreacted during their brief, fatal encounter in the parking lot of a Florida convenience store last week. McGlockton overreacted by pushing Drejka to the ground, and Drejka overreacted by drawing a pistol and shooting McGlockton in the chest.
Although it is hard to see how Drejka's use of lethal force could have been justified, Pinellas County Sheriff Bob Gualtieri declined to arrest him, claiming his hands were tied by Florida's Stand Your Ground law. But that is not true, and Gualtieri's misrepresentation of the law has renewed misguided criticism of Florida's approach to self-defense, which contrary to popular misconception does not give a free pass to armed hotheads who claim to have fired out of fear.

Where do you guys get the notion every fistfight is resolvable by murder and its justified?
Did yall fight ever?
>>>Actually the killer approached her<<<
My mistake, not that it changes anything.
She was in her Car when the guy walked up and could have just pulled out of the Handicap Space into one of the many empty parking Spaces nearby and ended it before it began.
No matter, the Authorities and the Lawyers will sort it all out. I envision some sort of Charges being brought and a Civil Suit being filed, but that’s just my Opinion.
Of course the blame will ultimately be pinned on responsible Gun Owners and the NRA by the time it all ends.
We’re just kicking a dead Mule with these multiple Threads anyway and the only result is Butt hurt, disagreement, a variety of informed / uninformed opinions and the usual what if’s that accomplish nothing but wasted Keystrokes.
That’s it.
I want a to be clear....Im not mad at anyone here ..
Only folks here I really do not cotton to are south bashers
I just dont believe in shooting people over fist fighting unless its life or death
Maybe I grew up in a different era where yes we did fight a lot and ironically Ive fought a lot of black men..big ones....but Im big too
Ive pulled my guns when I had to and didnt always fire....
But thats my main point....I dont normally kill folks over a fist fight
What scares me more though is getting choked out....some guys dont know when to let off
Anyhow God bless....it is dead mule time for sure
Im going to let the thread go
Sleep well
You too my FRiend.

We just have these little dust ups to keep us honest and humble. #;^)
Off to Bed for me. It’s my Birthday. Have to rest up for a day of chowing down. LOL
65 and still alive, so no complaints.
Take care...
>>Depends on your definition of lunatic .
Liberals think anyone who disagrees with them is a lunatic.<<
Exactly right. People who don’t want to suffer serious bodily harm should keep their hands to themselves.
>>Chivalry is not the same as Assault and Battery either.
Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.<<
Well and truly said.
>>You cannot kill an unarmed man because you feel threatened<<
On the other hand, one who has already been assaulted should not be required confirm whether his assailant is or isn’t armed by risking his life to find that out.
>> He assaulted the guy because he was entitled to assault him just like he was entitled to that handicapped spot.<< /s
>>Are you equating defend yourself to killing someone who pushes you? Seriously, its sick!<<
People need to learn to keep their hands to themselves. Those who don’t, suffer the consequences.
Define "armed".
>> In any case, I see no need for an honest citizen to engage in fisticuffs when attacked by some jerk. Jerks should become familiar with the fact that their lives are at stake when they attack, and find more productive ways to entertain themselves.<<
Excellent post from start to finish.
The police seem to do it all too often.
The police seem to do it all too often.
I’ll check it when the phone is fully charged. The Heinlein quote...”An armed society is a polite society.” would seem only to apply if everyone is known or presumed to be armed. Handicapped parking isn’t worth killing or dying over.
why are you blaming the victim and not the thug that viciously threw the victim to the ground?
...and the thug should have heeded that and not attacked that man for no reason.
Markeis McGlockton died as a result of violently battering a man. If you don’t like the consequence then don’t ignore the crime.
Kids who go around thinking the shooting was wrong do so because they believe Markeis McGlockton’s battery was acceptable behavior. So what will they grow up to do?
Say Brittany Jacobs had been carrying a firearm. And when Drejka came towards her yelling about the parking spot she pulled her gun out and blew his head off. Stand your ground, she felt her safety was being threatened, no charges should be filed. Right?
