Victim's girlfriend says Florida gunman provoked fatal 'stand your ground' shooting
ABC News ^ | July 2, 2018 | Karma Allen

Britany Jacobs, the girlfriend of the man shot and killed in a Florida parking lot last week, says her boyfriend was just coming to her defense and the gunman “wanted someone to be angry at.” Now she wants “justice,” she says.

Jacobs, who witnessed the shooting along with the couple’s 5-year-old son, said she and her two small children were waiting in the car for her boyfriend, Markeis McGlockton, while he ran into a convenience store in Clearwater, Florida. Onlooker Michael Drejka got out of his parked car and began “harassing” her about being parked in a handicap space, she said.

Surveillance video showed McGlockton exiting the store and shoving Drejka to the ground. Drejka then drew a handgun and shot and killed McGlockton.

Video shows deadly shooting over parking spot at Clearwater convenience store

"Drejka is a legal concealed weapons permit holder and will not be charged because of Florida's Stand Your Ground law, according to the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office.

The store owner tells ABC Action News that Drejka has a history of assaulting people in the very parking lot the shooting took place. A man who frequents the store told ABC Action News he had a run-in with the man who opened fire just one month ago. Rich Kelly says the man picked a fight with him over a parking spot, using racial slurs, and even threatening to kill him. Now, a month later, a similar case, ending with a father killed in front of his 5-year-old son."

Hopefully this clarifies things.

The shootin' guy apparently hung out in this particular parking lot during the day, and did this many, many times.

Check me if I'm wrong here, Sandy - but didn't the shooter have a history of "confronting" people over parking spaces in this parking lot?

Doesn't justify the assault and battery on the dead guy's part.

“It is not a trivial thing for people to block them.”

No,it isn’t,but this guy who just stands around waiting for someone to illegally park there needs to get a life.

In the old days he would have been called a “ nosy busybody”.

Lesson learned!

Always assume the guy you are about to pick on has a gun.

An armed society is a polite society.

I don’t know about legal justification for killing the guy, but I do know that he will never push another old guy to the ground.

There was no excuse for violently pushing the guy to the ground. I’m glad I will not be on a jury deciding his guilt, I really don’t know how I would come down on it. The guy doing the pushing deserves most of the blame, the woman out of the car giving the old guy a ration deserves some of the blame too.

I do wonder if the old white dude had weighed in at about 280lbs at 6’5” if the jerk would have still tried pushing him. I’m of the opinion that he thought he could get over on some little old white guy and punish him for slavery.

The dead guy was a jerk any way you slice it, don’t think he deserved death for his anger and stupidity though.

I posted the fact that this shootin' guy apparently hung out in this particular parking lot like a territorial dog with a gun, and "protected" his "special" parking spaces.

Are you OK with this sort of behavior, or not?

It's a serious question.

I mean, if you're OK with having to look over your shoulder for armed crazies in public parking lots, who am I to argue with you?

According to the store owner, this guy hung out in the parking lot and did this over and over and over again.

if he broke the law on some other occasion then people should have complained, or the store owner could have had him removed for trespassing.

Do you believe that armed territorial whackjobs should be able to hang out in public parking lots and "take issue" with any random person that uses the parking lot?

Wow does that ever sound like liberal speak or what. This guy was just talking to the woman on camera. that is not illegal. Then her boyfriend viciously shoved him to the ground, as bad as any punch, and moved in closer, probably to beat him further.

Maybe you DU types just like whack job thugs who assault people without cause in parking lots.

Who died and assigned the older guy to be the parking police?

He had no business whatsoever approaching anyone in that parking lot, whether they made an infraction or not.

He should have gone about his business, and not approached the wife of someone in the store.

What’s his excuse? “Oh, I didn’t realize yelling at someone’s wife might get me cold-cocked!”

LOL, seriously?

Her boyfriend most certainly experienced what happens.

Best to remain civil, isn’t it?

"Sure you can, especially if you believe you’re in danger form the guy who just assaulted you."

Nope. There must be an objectively reasonable perception of an imminent deadly threat. All of those things. There was no imminent deadly threat here at the moment the trigger was pulled. And really at no other time either.

I agree with you.

The shooter was in the wrong from the beginning.

He was told before not to do “this” (confront people about parking) by I assume was the gas station owner.

He should have just notified the police and given the make/ model/ tag number.

Also, he was in the woman’s face yelling at her. In many places this would/could be considered assault.

Assault: An act, criminal or tortious, that threatens physical harm to a person, whether or not actual harm is done. A strong verbal attack.

You would shoot and kill someone for pushing you down?

I find that hard to believe

Disagree.

I should have backed away before he shoved him.

Bit off way more than he could chew, then he choked on it.

SO SAD!

“He specifically said it was being referred to the State Attorney.”

The County DA already said no charges. The State Attorney will chop off on it. Just like the Zimmerman shooting went to the State.

One thing is clear at this point. In a jury trial the prosecutor will not get a unanimous decision against the shooter. The State Attorney will likely consider this. They knew they’d lose in Zimmerman’s trial but public pressure forced them to charge him anyways. It cost millions in state funding to basically educate a group of biased people to the validity of written law. Let’s not make this a common practice. “I don’t like the law, so you have to charge everyone for everything I say.

The video shows the guy moving and turning away at the time of the shot.

Right he moved back when he was shot. too late for the person shooting in self defense to put the bullet back in the gun.

So what?

If they didn’t like the self appointed parking lot policeman, then they should have had him removed by the police for trespassing.

Oh cut it out.

There was no curb. What is it with you folks?

You come out of a store and some guy has his face up in your wife’s face yelling at her. What are you going to do, extend you hand and introduce yourself?

The dumb ass that got in the wife’s face, was asking for it.

Who’s going to put up with that?

The black guy was making no move to approach the guy, and the guy on the ground killed him, even as he was turning moving away.

That WAS NOT a good shoot.
