Romney: Trump's remarks at Putin summit 'disgraceful and detrimental to democratic principles'

Former GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney tore into President Trump on Monday after Trump challenged the intelligence community's assessment that Russia meddled in the 2016 election, calling Trump's behavior "disgraceful and detrimental to our democratic principles."

Romney's comments came hours after Trump held a joint news conference with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Helsinki, Finland, in which he questioned whether Russia was behind efforts to meddle in the 2016 election.

"President Trump's decision to side with Putin over American intelligence agencies is disgraceful and detrimental to our democratic principles," Romney, who is running for Senate in Utah, said in a statement posted on Twitter.

"Russia remains our number one geopolitical adversary; claiming a moral equivalence between the United States and Russia not only defies reason and history, it undermines our national integrity and impairs our global credibility."

Romney's statement was one of several GOP rebukes of Trump's performance at the press conference. Romney had taken a noticeably softer approach to the president in recent months after being fiercely critical during the real estate mogul's 2016 presidential bid.

Trump has offered Romney his endorsement in his bid to replace the retiring Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-Utah).

Trump's comments on Monday, however, drew criticism from across the political spectrum, with both Republicans and Democrats criticizing him for failing to say whether Russia interfered in the election and casting doubt on his own intelligence community, while standing next to Putin.

His communism is far more relevant than his religion.
You might try evaluating him from that angle instead of posts about undergarments.

Flake off, Willard. What is disgraceful is how the Romney/Ryan ticket failed to fight for the Presidency in 2012.

Endorsing Romney is like putting termites in your house.

The nationalists among us did not, nor for McCain.
Enough nationalists in fact to make it impossible for McCain or Romney to win.

This refusal made the assertion that only a Uniparty Republican could win an obvious lie.

Eventually the people took a shot on a nationalist instead of a cookie cutter globalist, with securing the border as the central goal.

So here we are.

You're welcome.

Nope. His crazy frumpy underwear is just too hilarious and weird.

Like where it wrinkles his starched blue jeans when he's trying to prove he's normal.

Just read GOP senators are trying to stop Trump from meeting with Putin. I know they are cowards but these people are seriously defective. There is NO good explanation for this and their concern for this nation is zero.

A. His ego took a hit when the public rejected him, but elected Trump.
B. His ego took a hit when Trump failed to give him an important position in his administration.
C. He’s an asshole.

He doesn’t follow his religion at all (weird as Mormonism is) his worldview comes from the Frankfort School and the Bilderbergers.

Conspiracy theory or not, Romney never attended Bilderberg.

Someone should tell Mitt "The Lizard" Romney that Trump got 45.9% of the Utah vote to McMullin's 21.0%. Since that election, the Republicans in Utah even more overwhelmingly support Trump.

If Romney can't tone down his stupidity, Utah just might elect a Dem senator in 2018.
