I have. McDonald's has excellent Wi-Fi, usually good bathrooms, refillable drinks, comfortable seating, and free newspapers so I can do the Jumble, Cryptoquote and Sudoku puzzles while waiting for my daughter's Karate to end.

The drive-through would be one of the first places to go. They’d put multiple slots where you reach out, order and then wait until your order is at the take-out window

“cashiers arent going anywhere”
Wrong, ever go to a drive up ATM?

cashiers arent going anywhere as long as there is a drive thru. who eats INSIDE a fast food place anyway?People who want to use the restroom. People on long drives who want to stretch their legs. People with kids who need to get out of the car for a bit. And yes
in many very small towns and rural areas, the local fast food places, including McDonalds, become gathering places for friends and small groups. Even in an urban area with more options, the fast food joint may be a neighborhood hangout, and not just for kids.

McDonalds has a very large lunch trade that eats indoors.
The kiosks will absorb some of the line traffic at the cash registers.
You get a numbered receipt and pick up when the number is called. For regular customers, it will be a speedup in the lunch process.
The process is already obsolete in China. Rather than a kiosk, the customer has a bank ap that has a Mcdonalds ap The order is entered on your phone and automatically paid.
There are some attempts here but not universal as it will be

Lots of people. Seems like all McDonalds’s restaurants have undergone significant makeovers recently, including the interior and menu. Their coffee is good and relatively inexpensive. Gotta love those bottomless drinks too.

This is one of the more obvious places where automation will replace unskilled workers. Already I can place a Dunkin Donuts order through my phone app and either walk in or pull up to the drive-through to collect it. No cashier needed as the transaction is done through my app.
That's the trend. Orders (and payments) will flow through kiosks and apps.
We may still need people assembling the orders for the time being but they will soon have no need to handle cash transactions.

“...who eats INSIDE a fast food place anyway?”
I do about once a week. Last night, the wife and I stopped at Burger King and ate inside. I saw what looked like a fair number of others eating their food in too.
But yeah, most go thru the drive-thru.

Sonics already uses a ‘kiosk’ for every car.
