Watch: Officer fires through window in Las Vegas car chase An officer in Las Vegas fired through a window in a dramatic high-speed car chase last Wednesday.
The police unit released the video on Monday which showed dramatic body camera footage of an officer at the wheel, grabbing his gun, and peppering his windhsield with bullets to stop the suspect from getting away.
The chase and shootout, which occurred July 11, came after officers responded to an attempted murder call, police said.
Another police car joined the chase but was shot at by the suspects a number of times. Metropolitan Police Department Assistant Sheriff Tim Kelly said in a statement that the second officers car was hit by bullets at least twice, forcing him to abandon the chase.
He added that during the pursuit, the two suspects, Fidel Miranda, 23, and 30-year-old Rene Nunez, fired 34 shots at officers and hit several marked police vehicles.
One suspect was killed during the pursuit, while the other was left wounded.
Certainly it's sometimes necessary when firing into a vehicle, which cops sometimes do. After being somewhat deflected by the windshield the rounds are only a foot or two from the target.
Firing out of a vehicle through a windshield is a whole nother kettle of fish. The rounds have a much longer distance to the target after being deflected. Not only is it stupid and unsafe to use a firearm that way, the odds are high that it will also be quite futile, a waste of rounds. Geometry matters.
Yep, just watched again.....and again....
He’ll never wear a badge again. Watched too many movies.
Didn’t even have enough range time with his gear to get a fresh mag seated without fumbling with it.
Beginning was even worse, honestly....high speed chase with his finger on the trigger. Going lefty for a second to shoot out the driver side window, before he thought better.
I don’t want him having a badge/and/or/gun.
You nailed it.
I saw that one person was wounded. It’s a miracle no one was killed with all those bullets flying around.
You, too, friend.
“:^)
I wasn't part of that exchange and just guessing, but I'd expect the lead car to back off a bit but keep the suspect vehicle in sight. Not only for the cops own safety but everyone else, in the hopes the suspects would maybe stop firing recklessly and indiscriminately at the cops. I would do this while requesting air support and coordinating ground units on exact locations and direction so as to quickly set up perimeter so when the pursuit ended there would be lots of ground support close by.
Btw, it really hard to hit anything from a fast moving vehicle, especially at another fast moving vehicle who's trying their best to evade you.
Where in the hell did he learn that THAT was a good idea?
He should be fired or at least suspended for this.
“Actually, after reading your tripe in the post I had responded to, I didnt bother to read anything else by you. I dont give a hoot what else you might have said.”
You should wear a condom on your head since if you’re going to act like a dick then you should dress like one too.
(Damn shame I’m wasting this burn on someone who will never read it.)
DO you need to “excuse TexasGator, he’s the guy who supports what the cops did in Whacko, Texas. He’s one of those “the bikers all deserved to die guys!” I wouldn’t give him the time of day. He’s “bipolar,” in that he thought the Whacko cops killing bikers with AR-15’s at Twin Peaks was a “good thing!”
“Didnt even have enough range time with his gear to get a fresh mag seated without fumbling with it.”
That’s about the dumbest thing I’ve read here. If you were in the cop’s position reloading after being shot at and needing to get in battery ASAP because he was in close proximity to the perps, you’d be $hitting your pants.
I’m familiar with my gear....
Pulling a mag out of the pouch, it’s always in the same position. Muscle memory from repetition.
Yeah, my hands would be shaking too, but I’d never try to jam in a magazine backwards.
“Lets deal with reality here.”
LOL!
Just 3 more days and you should be done with your period and feel good again. Until then, stay away from other humans and eat Midol like candy.
I’m probably the only guy on the forum that didn’t tune in to the Biker Waco incident.
For some reason it never caught my attention.
I’ll have to plead the fifth here, because I don’t know enough about it to judge anyone for their stance on it.
Okay, then you have a hard time with reality.
1. These perps had already killed one man
2. They were trying to evade police by driving recklessly in traffic, threatening the lives of many other people on the road
3. They were firing their weapons at police officers with many members of the public in the vicinity
4. They were desperate and would have done anything to escape, include kill more people
5. If they had been cornered and able to, they would have taken hostages
6. Any attempt to take these men off the street, was better than allowing them to kill more innocents
7. These men were killed/apprehended
8. The community was then safe
9. The officer complied with his department’s polices, to take these men off the streets
I accept the admonition to check this out. I think that’s a reasoned thing to mention to me.
Others have been on top of this from the beginning, and I don’t think I’d bring anything new to it. I’d feel rather silly trying to weigh in on it, since I haven’t followed it like they have.
“The officer complied with his departments polices, “
That is not what his chief said.
Is there any indication that his rapid fire through the windshield was effective?
Has he been fired?
