Six Republican campaign volunteers say they were kicked out of an Uber on Saturday as their driver told them welcome to the resistance.
The six volunteers were told halfway to their destination in Raleigh, North Carolina, to exit the vehicle at a gas station because the driver had the right to deny [them] service, Mary Russell, one of the riders in the Uber, told The Daily Caller News Foundation. The six riders exited the car and were told, Welcome to the resistance, as the driver drove away.
It was clear based on our mild conservative political talk that the driver realized we were Republicans, Russell, who was the rider who ordered the Uber, told The DCNF. After the incident, she received a message from Uber saying that she was inappropriate towards her driver.
I reviewed the relevant policy of Uber and we did not use inappropriate and abusive language or gestures that would result in the early termination of a ride, Russell said. This type of discrimination against politically oriented conservatives should be against the policy of Uber.
Russell said the group then requested another ride and experienced no problems with that driver.
Chris Godbey, another one of the riders, also felt the group was unfairly treated.
For an individual to blatantly target Young Republicans for their political outlook is an assault on the freedoms guaranteed by the First Amendment. While business owners should have the freedom to provide the service as the see fit, once a contract has been entered, breaking that contract is inappropriate and to do so based on discrimination for political beliefs is unlawful, he told The DCNF
As a loyal and longstanding Uber customer and a proud conservative working to make this country a better place for everyone, this is unacceptable, and I will consider other ride-sharing apps in the future if this is not addressed, Russell said.
The six were on a campaign trip to campaign for North Carolina Republican Reps. Mark Meadows, George Holding and Mark Walker, as well as North Carolina Lt. Governor Dan Forest, North Carolina State Republican Rep. Chris Malone, and Mark Harris, a candidate for the House of Representatives.
The incident is part of a trend of harassment and denials of service to Republicans. A congressional intern was denied service in an Uber on Tuesday because he was wearing a Make America Great Again Hat, according to The Daily Caller. We expect all riders and drivers to treat each other with respect, and were looking into this situation, an Uber spokesperson told TheDCNF on Sunday.
We need to start writing down their tag numbers and make/color of the vehicle and posting it online so future conservative riders could know who to avoid. It would also let the drivers conservative neighbors know they have a nut case in the neighborhood. Perhaps they might get the urge some night to help battle global warming by returning trapped air in the drivers tires back into the atmosphere where it belongs.
You’re lucky. Not many basements in my neck of the woods.
One day were going to read about people being refused driverless rides because the company is in a snit over a customers [fill in the blank].
If this keeps up its only a matter of time until a driver pulls this garbage on a well armed rider who just lost their job and their wife just asked for a divorce with alimony and custody of the dog. And if the driver turns out to be one of drivers who have an establised history of reported maga-phobia complaints and were not terminated by Uber they will be in deep doo-doo.
That's what I was thinking.
Like Jews no longer welcome anywhere in nazi Germany...
They paid for the trip to their destination. The Driver defrauded them.
It would take 5 minutes for another uber or Lyft driver to pick them back up.
Yes, that could be endangerment. Conservatives need to get used to suing business when they pull this discrimination crap or allow it without due compensation.
We need to push until Uber gives them a public apology. Not so that will be the end of it, but the beginning. A public apology to a conservative will cause SJW to boycott them too, and they will lose customers from both sides.
I keep waiting for these things to happen to me.
I can just imagine this driver doing this to me and a couple of my friends or family who are MAGA!
It would be a very bad decision.
Why get out of the car. Call a cop.

I love Uber, but I could learn to love Lyft.
Pretty soon they’ll make it an unspoken rule to have some kind of mark on your forehead or right hand so they can identify you as one of them (liberal lefty) and if you don’t they will stop patronizing your place of business and will refuse you service. But that’s probably only if we allow the DNC back into power. If we do, eventually I see this happening, crazy as it sounds.
With the exception of an old retired man working as an Uber driver, my assessment of them is that, if they had an education, it was in Gender Studies. For the most part, you are dealing with people who live on the (nicer) margin of society and those are likely to be socialists.
And this is why I do not use uber.

I’m an Uber driver. This wouldn’t have happened if those Republicans had gotten me!

The Uber app identifies the driver. Then driver needs to be outed and then fired.
