The California Democratic Party endorsed progressive candidate Kevin de León for Senate late Saturday in a stunning rebuke of 25-year incumbent and establishment favorite Dianne Feinstein.
De León, the state Senate president pro tempore, secured 65 percent of the partys vote, while just 7 percent voted to endorse Feinstein.
A candidate needed 60 percent of the vote to win the endorsement. Twenty-eight percent of the body voted not to endorse any candidate.
Todays vote is a clear-eyed rejection of politics as usual in Washington, D.C., de León said in a statement. Through years of hard-won progress, we have proven to the world that California can forge a path for the rest of the nation.
We have presented Californians with the first real alternative to the worn-out Washington playbook in a quarter-century, he added.
The endorsement is a sign that the states politics are moving to the left as the country heads into a midterm showdown. De León has also secured endorsements from progressive environmental and labor groups.
Still, it is unlikely that he will beat Feinstein in the general election. In the states June primary, Feinstein won 44 percent of the vote, far ahead of de Leóns 12 percent. The two candidates will face off in the November election because of the states top-two primary system.
Feinstein also has the backing of the most-recognizable Democratic names, including former President Obama, former Vice President Joe Biden and California Gov. Jerry Brown.
Feinsteins campaign manager told SF Gate Saturday night that her team is confident in Feinsteins re-election in November.
The Mexicans colonizing California want their own as representatives.
When your enemy is making a mistake never get in his way.
So,Feinstein isn’t far enough left? And California thinks it has shown the path for the rest of the country?
A path to the abyss.
“Progressive” sounds benign. How about, “Screaming moonbat”?
Left of of “spray hose” difi. Yikes! Along the lines of the ny sociocommie? You know there’s not a conservative around that could take that seat.
As if difi isnt a progressive
DiFi is starting to embarrass even the Dems, and that is saying something. And posturing against the Washington DC PTB is a great move, at least until they become the Washington DC PTB. Then, they demand and get the 0bama fawning treatment.
Because of California jungle primary, where all candidates regardless of party are on the same ballot, California voters choice in November is between two Democrats.
What a choice. Sarcasm.....
Walk away, DiFi.
Feinstein isn’t far enough to the left...
All those illegal alien registered voters give the demon Democrats a lot of options. The can go very far left, even overtly communist and still win elections in California.
Thats it - they are extremely racist. Just try living among them. Once they take over we will be a minority without minority privileges.
Where is the damned wall?!!!
No, there’s some kind of deal that Newsome wins the Governor job....Feinstein retires in summer of 2019, Newsome appoints himself to the Senator job, and Ed Hernandez (figured right now to win the Lt Gov job) moves up a notch.
I think the state committee isn’t happy that Newsome will go around them.
My guess is that he's not going to be tough on illegal immigrants.
DiFi has to stay in office until she assumes room temperature to keep the indictments at bay.
Feinstein, like the rest of the geriatric Democratic leadership are mostly neocon multimillionaires who take socially liberal positions only to continually get reelected and keep the money flowing.
They're about to get tossed to the curb by a new generation of Democrat that is young, brown, angry, unapologetically socialist, and hates white people.
Pass the popcorn. The show is about to start.
