The founder and former CEO of Papa Johns allegedly used a racial slur during a May conference call on how to avoid unflattering public relations incidents, Forbes reported Wednesday.
John Schnatter, the companys chairman and public face, allegedly used the slur during an exercise on handling public relations for the company after he faced blowback for tying the NFL's national anthem protests to lower sales for Papa Johns, according to the magazine.
Forbes reported that Schnatter used the slur after being asked how he would distance himself from racist groups, and tried to play down the impact of his statement on the anthem protests. Colonel Sanders called blacks n-----s, Schnatter reportedly said on the call, adding the Sanders didnt face outcry for his statements.
The founder also reportedly said that when he was growing up in Indiana, people would drag black people from trucks until they died.
Schnatter meant the comments to show his opposition to racism, but others on the call found his statements offensive, according to Forbes.
The marketing agency who arranged the call, Laundry Service, cut ties with Papa Johns after the statements, the publication reported.
Papa Johns did not deny the incident in a statement to Forbes.
"Papa John's condemns racism and any insensitive language, no matter the situation or setting, the statement read. We take great pride in the diversity of the Papa John's family, though diversity and inclusion is an area we will continue to strive to do better."

By claiming that he used racial slurs when he was only referring to someone else who did. It's not framing like you'd see in a movie, where evidence is left to incriminate someone. But they mis-characterized the remark to brand him a racist.
FYI - youre arguing with a racist troll.
Great post! Love that movie.
“Is publicizing a private recording of a private conversation within a companys rights?”
It does not appear that a company publicized the conversation as neither Papa John’s or the marketing company issued a statement confirming his use of the N Word.
Now, is it within the rights of any singular person in the conference call to report what he said?
Yes.
Is it within the rights of the marketing company to cut ties with Papa John’s?
Yes.
Is it within the rights of the media to report the story?
Yes.
All because the PC zombies claim any use of the word "nigger" - even if it's used in a quote of people or characters being depicted negatively as racists - is racist?
So, who framed him, Papa John’s or the marketing company?
And how how do you know which company did so?
How do you know it was the marketing company, and not someone at Papa John’s that publicized what he said?
Is it unethical to report parts of a private conversation?
YES.
It is unethical to misconstrue what was said?
YES
Is it part of a racial smear campaign?
YES
Are u a troll?
YES
This is crap. He was quoting someone else as an example; not saying it himself.
PC is crap. All this over sensitivity to race is crap. Leftism is the ultimate crap sandwich.
You said it was the marketing company.
Were you incorrect?
This museum says that the last lynching in IN was in 1930. Schnatter's granddad was a kid then, not him.

Racism, we are not cured of, clearly. And its not just a matter of it not being polite to say nigger in public.

I did not say that.
I said the marketing company cut ties with Papa Johns.
We don’t know who leaked what he said, but a marketing company cutting ties with a major client is a worthy of being reported.
Any person or entity that tolerates any music or rap (that’s not music) that uses the dreaded N word has no standing to criticize its use.
I am CERTAIN this guy is paying at least, the football players at Louisville. No way are athletes like Sheldon Rankins, DeVante Parker, Cal Pryor, Teddy Bridgewater and Lamar Jackson going to that school, to play for, mainly, Charlie Strong.
No - its not worthy of being reported.
Its not a racial slur.
Its a misconstrued quote.
Its a racial smear campaign.
I can’t comment on his motives since his statements are out of context, but I will comment on how STUPID this was regardless of intent.
A business conference call is no place for these comments.
He has the right of free speech and beliefs. He also has to accept the consequences.
Did the marketing company have the right to cut ties with Papa Johns?
Do you have evidence that the marketing company released a statement about what was said in the meeting?
Where did I say he used a racial slur?
As for me, I am off to a meeting where I doubt anyone will use the N word.
Papa Johns has the “claim to fame” of being the CHEAPEST pizza.
I generally don’t like the “CHEAPEST” anything. (women maybe being the exception /s).
