BRETT KAVANAUGH: AN EXCELLENT BEGINNING
Powerline ^ | July 9,2018 | JOHN HINDERAKER

Posted on 07/10/2018 7:59:27 AM PDT by Hojczyk

1) President Trump’s introduction of Kavanaugh was beautifully conceived and delivered. Was there a teleprompter that I missed? Trump’s announcement seemed to be extemporaneous, and it was done flawlessly. Barack Obama was never able to talk off the cuff like this.

2) Trump emphasized Kavanaugh’s establishment credentials. With a razor-thin one-vote margin in the Senate, this is a good approach, and it probably accounts in large part for Trump’s selection of Kavanaugh. His credentials for the job are unimpeachable. If Trump has another opportunity to name a Justice, the Republicans will probably have a wider margin in the Senate and he may be free to choose a more controversial nominee.

3) The President praised Justice Anthony Kennedy rather effusively, and the fact that Kavanaugh clerked for Kennedy was emphasized. This was smart: the implication was that Kavanaugh will continue Kennedy’s tradition rather than being a radical departure from it, as the Democrats will assert.

4) Trump highlighted not just Kavanaugh, but his family. That worked extremely well, and Kavanaugh took good advantage of the opportunity. The Democrats will try to demonize Kavanaugh, but it will be hard to sell that vision to anyone who was watching tonight.

5) Kavanaugh was visibly nervous and, unlike Trump, worked from a script. His references to his parents and his family were warm and genuine, and his judicial philosophy, as he described it, is one with which a large majority of Americans agree.

6) Kavanaugh shrewdly noted that Elena Kagan, now a Democratic Supreme Court justice, hired him to teach at Harvard Law School. Kavanaugh teaches, apparently, at Harvard Law School, Yale Law School, and someplace else that I missed. Again, it will be hard for the Democrats to question his qualifications in any traditional way.

Rest of article..

7) On the whole, I thought the announcement was beautifully managed. The audience gave Judge Kavanaugh and his family a warm reception that must have impressed unbiased viewers. The road to confirmation may be bumpy, given the Democrats’ lunacy, but it got off to an excellent start tonight.

Looks like the lady will have to wait till Ginsberg is gone..

I thought it was a very nice introduction.

I heard some liberal type on TV, say it felt like a political campaign. He criticized how they “trotted out” the family, the way politicians running for office do.

And, this liberal type said, this is a judicial appointment, not a political rally, and the ceremony should have been “more solemn” since we’re talking about the Supreme Court.

As usual, liberal types will find some aspect of things to criticize.

There was no teleprompter visible even in the wide shots.

He coached a girls (Basketball?) Team. It wouldn’t surprise me if the dems or media find some of them who will claim he molested them.

Especially if Soros money is thrown around.

Hinderaker makes a living writing about the media, yet he doesn't own a DVR? (or maybe he has one and doesn't understand how to mash the rewind button)

Teleprompter speeches are not necessarily bad, if the content delivers the message it is supposed to.

When Trump goes free range, he never disappoints, but it is sometimes hard for minds that take him literally to keep up. Judge Kavanaugh probably was much more structured in both his thinking and delivery with use of the script.

“Was there a teleprompter that I missed?”

Nope. When someone speaks from their heart and personal convictions, there is no need for so much as bullet points on a yellow note pad.

President Trump’s words of freedom, liberty, and the importance of the Supremes respecting the Constitution was music to my ears.

“He coached a girls (Basketball?) Team. It wouldn’t surprise me if the dems or media find some of them who will claim he molested them.”

That thought ran across my mind as well, I’m sorry to say.

But I’m very sure all stakeholders in this nomination have covered all the bases, including the possibility of false allegations.

Having said that, I bet Mr. Kavanaugh will adopt the ‘MIke Pense’ rules of conduct from now on, if he hasn’t already.

Considering he coaches in the belly of the swamp, I'm sure some of the girls on the team parents (moms) are left wing lunatic pink hat devotees...

All the media needs to ask the right mom is a question if they have ever seen any inappropriate behavior and don't get a direct NO answer, off and running they will go implying their MIGHT be an issue...

Yes, they are that low and slimy

How do you know those numbers? I look at one thing, ie does she have any foot or leg wounds? If so, that’s a sign of someone who has a poor prognosis, 5 year year survival.

I would say, Trump will have at least 3 more picks for the SCOTUS 5 in total.

Thomas
Sotomyer
Ginsburg

That old bird could live to 110, she is surprisingly healthy

She works out every day

I think she sleeps a lot because of her work out regimen

Now Sotomoyer, she isn’t healthy, she may even have to step down

I feel uneasy "wishing death" on people so let me just say that I wish good health to all and that every person lives out the maximum lifespan on this planet that their biological makeup allows. Even bitter leftist scolds that sit on the Supreme Court.

That said, I hope that eight years of Trump leads into eight years of another pro-American conservative. And so on. Then we can allow nature to take its natural course with the outcome being that in good time, we will have a solid Supreme Court that is worthy of our Constitution and our great nation.
