A Divided America Does Not Mean Civil War
Observer ^ | 7/04/18 | John R. Schindler

Posted on 07/04/2018 8:14:12 AM PDT by Libloather

Civil war is in the air this steamy summer—at least according to the opinion polls. Many Americans are unhappy to the point of despondency about our political divisions, which have been mounting for years and have reached a crisis point during the presidency of Donald Trump. I’m not talking about mere partisanship, which is perennial in democracies, rather something more extreme—and potentially sinister.

Last week, a Rasmussen poll revealed that a shocking 31 percent of voters responded that “it’s likely that the United States will experience a second civil war sometime in the next five years.” This fear is not just relegated to left-wingers who are gravely unhappy with the current White House. While 37 percent of Democrats feared a new civil war was inbound, so did 32 percent of Republicans, per Rasmussen.

In America, talk of another civil war inevitably brings comparison to the last one, the fratricidal maelstrom that raged from 1861 to 1865. That eminently avoidable conflict, which thanks to political paralysis and stupidity wasn’t avoided, took the lives of roughly a million Americans. Since our country’s population then was about 31 million, that would be equivalent to the deaths of more than 10 million Americans today.

The left does not scare me physically or politically. What scares me is the GOP that is doing the dirty work of the left. The Bush/Obama era almost gave us Clinton Regime II.

The Bush League Republicans have always been the bigger threat, yet people still insist we have to keep voting for them.

Sez another brainiac "observer" blogger. The Demagogic Party has been building up for their second civil war for a long while now, stretching back into the Reagan years at least, really into the Johnson administration.

Here’s the thing: One side believes that whatever is in their head IS the Law. The WRITTEN law means NOTHING to these people. There are many of them in gov’t, academics and media. They LITERALLY believe that ONLY Nazis differ with themselves. Literally (as in really).

The war has already begun.

It is just in the early stages so far.

The left has already begun to make war against those who do not agree with them.

They are killing policemen, shunning and excluding people from speaking, dining, posting on social media, etc.

Think of how the Jewish people were shunned and killed in the 1930’s and how that ended up.

Maybe, but I think that it will be after the November Elections when their “Blue Wave” fizzles. Then we are going to see a lot of violence and maybe counter violence.

Ah, the old "the military will put it down" argument. The author should check his own figures. 1.3 million active duty personnel spread over 50 states is quite a different proposition from the occasional activation of the National Guard in times of rioting. Those weren't civil wars.

We are, at the moment, experiencing isolated cases of violence, but what is different is the intense media campaigns that have been raging and show no sides of abating, that encourage more and defend the violent by deliberately twisting the news to justify their violence and generate sympathy for the offenders. That is a very bad and dangerous development, and violence spread that way isn't going to be stamped out by a few Guardsmen.

The Rwandan genocide was whipped up, controlled, and justified by a single radio station, RTLM, Radio Télévision Libre des Mille Collines, three of whose managers are now serving 30+ year sentences for the violence they provoked, incorporating between 500,000 and one million deaths. This sort of thing can get out of hand very quickly and the soldiers couldn't stop it.

This guy’s problem is that he cannot distinguish good from evil.

“None can deny that Americans increasingly despise each other over politics”

The good grow angrier with the evil, and vice versa. However, it is right for good to despise evil, but wrong for evil to despise good. It doesn’t “go both ways.”

“Partisans of all stripes embrace secular ideologies with the fervor of old-time fundamentalist religion”

Religion is a part of all this; or, at least, God is. One side wishes to obey God, the other despises Him. Despite the failures and weaknesses of those who try to follow God, there is no moral equivalence with those who brazenly, willfully strive to defy Him.

“egged on by the rabble-rousing preachers of Fox News and MSNBC, disguised as newsreaders”

Here we have an imperfect source, Fox, which gets some things right some of the time, to be compared with a source that thinks lying in the source of evil is laudable. How are these comparable?

Even if we want to draw an equivalence on the grounds that Fox is not perfect, we are jerked up at the end of our chain by the fact that the author is not criticizing Fox for getting things wrong. He is objecting to the part of Fox’s output that makes the left look bad—that is, the truth.

He’s saying that MSNBC is a little too doctrinaire on the left, while Fox goes too far to the right. Yes, I agree: Fox goes far enough to the right that the truth begins to appear. That’s what the author is objecting to.

He is saying that the LSM, who knowingly and maliciously deceive people with the intent of harming them, are equivalent to those who sincerely attempt to tell the truth in the interest of helping people.

Where do we go from here to avoid physical war?

Forced deportation. One of us has to go and we have the guns.

When discussing Spain and Yugoslavia, you have to add in the fact that both of those countries had a population of people who had some military training and backing, had other countries supporting the different sides, and there was no powerful overarching government that could overpower one side or the other in the short run.

Can you imagine Russia, the EU, or China trying to support the leftists with weapons or manpower in this conflict?

I’ve come across quite a few people I have worked with and known for a decade or more completely lose it. They seemed stable and rational enough in hindsight; but as of today? These same people literally want conservatives dead and they say so in plain English.
After they get crushed in the mid-terms is when I believe they will feel justified in their own minds to really try and get down with hurting people.

deportation.....

No one seems to have a better idea or some way to avoid conflict.

One thing true is that deported bad guys are not around here to make trouble.

There are very few incidents of ethnic conflict and discrimination lawsuits in our cities for Inuits (”Eskimos”) and Australian Aborigines. We get along great. There aren’t many anywhere to be found.

No, I agree that doesn't seem likely. But I can imagine the government off to the side and unable to quell violence between political factions that is sufficient to cause significant chaos. And this perhaps leading to a collapse a la the Soviet Union.

Well, it is an orchestrated effort on the Left's part. For decades now. They have pulled the LGBQT crowd in with them, along with BLM, environmentalists, immigrants, teachers, etc. Each group thinks they are going to get something out of it. The goal is "socialism" which will quickly morph into it's big daddy, Communism. They want it to go peacefully, but Hillary lost. Now they are feeling all their efforts slipping through their fingers. It will become violent if they feel it is needed. Exposing them for what they are might make them go underground for a while again, but I doubt it. They are in the open now, and sprinting for the finish line.
