(CNN)The Justice Department's senior-most career attorney, Associate Deputy Attorney General Scott Schools, is stepping down for a job in the private sector.

Attorney General Jeff Sessions made the official announcement Tuesday afternoon that Schools' last day would be Friday. "Scott has provided invaluable leadership and counsel in his years at the Department, and his service is an example to all," Sessions said in a statement. "He will be greatly missed, and I wish him the best in his future endeavors." Schools works under Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein and has had a significant role helping manage special counsel Robert Mueller's Russia investigation.

Might this very lucrative private sector job be a Perkins Coie or Fusion GPS?

Wow, that Sessions actually made a whole announcement by himself.

Incredible. Where do you find men that can handle things like that?

If this is the Scot Schools who was Assistant AG in South Carolina, he is one hell of a brilliant legal mind. I’ve seen him in action, and I deeply respect him as a lawyer. I knew he had taken an important position in government in DC, but didn’t know which one.

No matter which “job” he takes...well, he’s on the winning side. He can memorize case law and apply them to the case he’s prosecuting. I’ve seen judges defer to him, and I’ve seen the defense defer to him because he plays dair and square, and he knows what he’s doing. He’s facinating to behold in a courtroom.

People underestimate just how big these private sector offers are. An Assistant Attorney General can turn his $200,000 government job into a $2+ million full partnership at a big law firm.

Federal prosecutors becoming defense attorneys is the mechanism for the different justice systems for the political elites and for everyone else.

there should be a ten year ban on working in any firm that has any government dealings after working for fed/states. Tired of all the gold mining but the politically connected.

There’s also guys like James Comey, who start in government, leave to take bribes from Lockheed, Bridgewater investments, and crooked bank HSBC before returning to government as FBI Director. It’s open corruption.
