Police: Maryland suspect used legally purchased pump-action shotgun

The suspect charged in a deadly shooting at a Maryland newspaper office on Thursday used a pump-action shotgun that was legally purchased, according to the local Arundel County police.

"We've confirmed I think already that it was a shotgun used in the incident," Police Chief Timothy Altomare said at a press conference on Friday.

"I will also confirm that it was a pump action shotgun, it was legally purchased a year or so ago."

Altomare said the attack on the Capital Gazette in Annapolis, Md., was a "targeted" attack.

CNN reported early Friday that suspect Jarrod Ramos was charged with first-degree murder.

Five people were killed Thursday when a gunman opened fire at the newspaper's office.

Altomare said two other people were injured in the attack.

Don’t forget the lever-action Winchester 1887 shotgun.

You are incorrect. There is no Maryland state background check for rifles and shotguns but federal law still requires an NCIS check. Gun shops are routinely required to do this.

This shotgun was reportedly sold by a gun shop so a background check should have been conducted.

Thanks.

I've read his conviction was for a misdemeanor, so even if a background check were done, it would not preclude the purchase.

Hmmm...... interesting. I wasn’t aware of such a shotgun.

Shotgun diversity...... that’s the ticket

Remember Kerry’s campaign in ‘04. He wanted to ban semi- shotties. He don’t need one to hunt him some pheasants.

Is that for real? Best anti-gunner ignorance quote ever.

That said, less than 10 feet from me are seven rifles of various calibers cased and ready for a NRA Basic Riflery class I’m teaching tomorrow.

What I remember is he made a big deal of buying a state hunting license to go duck hunting.

I’ll bet a lot of money he did not have the required federal duck stamp and what’s more had no clue what it was

But was it an assault shotgun?

I have my grand father’s winchester 1897 12 gage pump that is infact an assault shot gun.

I recently had it tuned up to working order. It has a short barrel and is extremely lethal

From what I’ve read, he was convicted of criminal harassment, which, in Maryland, is a misdemeanor.

...The shotgun purchase was approved by Joe Biden...

He probably tested it by firing it a couple of times off his balcony as crazy Joe suggested.

Remington and moss berg have new magazine fed shotguns. Up to 20 rounds. That’ll put a dent in your day.
