Footage shows cops waiting in hallway during Las Vegas massacre

Newly released body camera footage shows Las Vegas police officers pausing for several minutes in the hallway of the Mandalay Bay hotel — as mass shooter Stephen Paddock guns down 58 people on the floor directly above them.

“Holy sh-t that’s rapid fire,” officer Cordell Hendrex utters in the chilling video, reacting to Paddock’s gunfire — which he later described as “like thunder all around and above us,” according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal.

The officer and his first-day trainee, Elif Varsin, stayed on the 31st floor for four-and-a-half minutes, even as they heard the shooter’s position reported as “the 32nd floor, room 135.”

“I’m inside the Mandalay Bay on the 31st floor,” Hendrex says in the video. “I can hear the automatic fire coming from one floor ahead, one floor above us.”

In a report, he later wrote that he “froze right there in the middle of the hall” after being terrified.

What, raid the room and get shot myself? What do they think I am? A hero?

Las Vegas is now the new “Big Easy”——let the good times roll....snake-eyes, again. This pointless apparently) little bit of info seems to be in the service of continuing a scenario of putting the focus on police incompetence-—rather than just about EVERY other glaring big question mark about this entire sick and highly suspicious “incident”

Knowing that protection in the event of a shooter attack like this is this p-ss poor wouldn’t exactly make the Mandalay an attractive place to visit. Mandalay. The place where there is a great delay at getting a man there if you need him.

‘they were in on it and told to stand down.”

-—I’m afraid I’ve come to that conclusion....and their admission that they “froze” is part of the bargain to both give them immunity and offer themselves as a temporary (moving) target of scorn, meanwhile taking the focus off just about everone and everything else. The longer this goes on, the clearer it becomes that something explosive still needs to be hidden, managed, and allowed to die. NO ACCOUNTABILITY.

Most cops I know or have known were vets. Police aren’t organized like military units. The situation that night wasn’t anything they’d ever encountered as police

The whole thing seems weird.

That's what I meant when I said that.

“Were any dogs shot?”

No...only because there were none around.

froze right there in the middle of the hall” after being terrified.

So, all those tacti-cool costumes and gear do not mean a damn thing?

Unless it is a defenseless perp or dog they can unload on.

Broward County, Nevada.

Sounds a lot like the song title to Kenny Rogers "Coward of the County".

Just because they obeyed instructions doesn't mean they were "in on it."

Certain persons had to complete certain tasks and clear the scene before the police could be permitted into the rooms. The people who plan and manage these operations are counting on the effectiveness of the chain of command.

If command and control was less effective, and cops were prone to attempting intervention into wet operations in contravention of orders, planning and executing these operations would be greatly complicated by the necessity of having a robust contingency to intercept and neutralize any Rambos. No winners in that scenario, are there?

If you want to stop a Las vegas in progress, you need to match (or preferably over-match) the lethality of the team which is executing the operation. Police forces operate in a completely different realm.

There are a lot of videos with a bump stock if you want to see and hear it. Yes, you can fire that rapidly, but it takes practice and it’s nearly impossible to aim. In a situation like this, I would rather face someone shooting at me (or at a crowd I’m in) using a bump stock than face someone aiming and using a good holographic sight. There would be a lot more kills per minute with aimed rapid fire than with the equivalent of full-automatic fire.

I guarantee if the cops thought there was a load of money in the room to illegally confiscate, they’d have moved 100 times faster.

I understand human nature (and fear), but what really irks people is how some of these departments have massive budgets for SWAT training and equipment - and still do nothing.

Don’t forget the armored vehicles too.
And if they’re going to dress the part, they should at least try to do the job.
Otherwise, they should pack it in and go home.
Or, alternately stated, “If you’re gonna dress for the rodeo, at least ride the bull.”

Well put; while we don’t have the armored vehicles in my area, many cops are wearing combat boots and tac vests. These aren’t elites; the vests often act as girdles.

“What, raid the room and get shot myself?”

Couldn’t they have thrown a flash grenade or some concussion device into the room?

We don’t know what the police on the ground were being told to do or not do

Police were told that the shooter was on the "32nd floor, room 135.” This police coward stayed on the 31st floor for 4 1/2 minutes while he heard the shooting going on from above. He should be immediately fired.
