President Donald Trump reportedly has said he thinks he can remake nearly half of the nation's highest court in his image with four separate appointments.
Presidents Barack Obama and George W. Bush made only two appointments each over eight years in office.
Ruth Bader Ginsburg is 85, and Trump has reportedly speculated that Sonia Sotomayor could be forced into early retirement because of diabetes.
Sotomayor has said she has the situation under control.
If Trump replaced a liberal justice with a conservative, he could change the court's makeup for decades....

Id like to see Alito replaced as he is 68 years old. If I were Trump, Id replace everyone of them but Gorsuch. I think he really needs to bring in Thomas, Alito, and the other dude and tell them it is time to go for the good of the country. Then replace with under 45 year old judges. We have got to play long term. It was STUPID to put Alito on the court at such an old age. We need judges on the court for 50 years to stop liberals from getting a chance to replace. We will NOT always have a Republican President or Senate. Lets be smart for a change.

Ditto!
They’re looking for their patsy even now.
Trump will leave office having made no fewer than five SCOTUS appointments.
I’m thinking six or seven overall.
“I do not see this job as stress free.”
If she took the time to apply the law in a thoughtful manner, it could be quite tedious work.
But she just relies on her feelings and personal beliefs, which is extremely easy (and lazy - if you’ll pardon the sterotype) to do.
Doug Jones knows he’s a half-term wonder and will get his pink slip from Alabama voters in 2020 should he seek reelection. What does Jones care about the difference between getting 35% of the vote and 38% of the vote in November 2020?
+1
That would be amazing but its kind of a stretch..Ginsberg I can see that happening for sure since she looks like she has a foot and a half in the ground already..Sotomayor because of diabetes, that is a stretch..but Ginsberg I can see her leaving for sure
Appropriate...but messy.
Hahahahaha!
Don’t know if it will be in his first term, but the very real possibility that Trump could replace 3 or 4 justices was always real... and honestly number could be higher.
Breyer and Ginsberg are high probability of one if not both retiring or passing prior to 2023.
Sotomayor’s health could very well prevent her from reaching there too (no guarantees, but she’s already 64 and living with a chronic illness whose life expectancy for a female is 68. Given she will have the best health care money can buy, she should almost certainly beat the average life expectancy, but health issues could force her to retire prior to 2023 anyway.
Thomas may choose to retire as well, while only 70 currently, health and desire to enjoy a few years not working, and knowing that Trump would be who replaces him vs the most likely odds his successor which would likely be a democrat, (based on historical reality that few presidents pass the white house on to their own party) he may retire during the Trump Administration as well.
Now it is possible that Ginsburg holds on to 2023 or Breyer, but odds of both? Probably very low. Ginsburg’s health has been poor for a very long time now... My guess would be these two will hold on until the 2020 election, in hopes that Trump is beat of R’s lose the Senate.. presuming God doesn’t end their terms prior. After that however, I would expect 1 if not both to retire... Ginsburg likely will die on the Supreme Court, or have to be forcibly removed due to incapacity.... She has publicly stated so many things over the years on the record that I just don’t see here vacating as long as she knows R’s will name her replacement. Breyer, not so much... He’ll hold on in hopes of a power shift, but if it doesn’t happen, I would expect him to retire.
Time will tell how it all plays out, but it is not beyond the realm of possibility that by the end of the Trump administration we will have 8 of the 9 Supreme Court Justices as folks who follow the constitution and the rule of law.... and no replacements likely to be named for 2-3 presidents barring an unexpected death.
Ginsberg really, really wanted to give Hillary her slot. I believe she held some deep, secret animus toward Obama. Hillary’s loss must have rattled her deeply.
Eh. I look at Ginsberg like one of those old, old, cats that just won’t die.
All their hair falls out, they cough up more hairballs than they take in food, but they just refuse to die and manage to stay alive far past their natural lives...almost out of stubborn spite.
They will wheel Ginsberg’s dead corpse into chambers before they let her resign.
While that is possible, I lengthen it to his eight year term.
In his two terms he may appoint as many as five new justices.
Each of Obama’s appointments he replaces will do serious harm to the Leftist efforts to destroy our republic.
If he replaces five, our nation will likely be safe for many years to come. It will have rolled back the attempt to destroy the United States as we know it.
Wagons ho...
Chief Justice Roberts is 63 and has health problems. Associate Justice Thomas is 70. Associate Justice Ginsburg is 85. Associate Justice Breyer is 79. Associate Justice Alito is 68. Associate Justice Sotomayor is 64 with serious health issues.
I like your thinking. We first need to get a new justice nominated/confirmed. If we win big in November and perhaps even if RBG goes, THEN I think Clarence might just retire feeling comfortable that he knows his seat wont alter the court.
heck Breyer might just give up and retire at the point the court “turns” conservative and his vote is meaningless
Be still my heart.
Hey, why not five?!
>>They will wheel Ginsbergs dead corpse into chambers before they let her resign.
Chief Justice Roberts should keep court in session for 18 hours a day, 7 days a week...that would do Ginsberg in no time.
