Mike Lee Puts Himself Back in the Running for Supreme Court; Here's Why Trump Should Oblige
PJ Media ^ | 06/28/2018 | Tyler O' Neill

On Wednesday, Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy announced his retirement from the nation's highest court. President Donald Trump promised to speedily replace him, and that he would choose someone on the list of 25 candidates he developed to fill the seat vacated by Justice Antonin Scalia. Trump should pick Sen. Mike Lee (R-Utah).

I have been a big fan of Lee for a long time. A former Supreme Court law clerk, this senator has taken firm principled stances and presented a strong originalist view of the Constitution. He made Trump's second list, the current one under consideration.

Lee took himself out of the running in September 2016, as he was running for his U.S. Senate seat that year. On Wednesday, he changed his tune. "If somebody asked me if I would consider that, I would not say no," the senator said.

"Mike Lee spoke to reporters in a rare hallway interview about SCOTUS. Asked if he would ever be interested in being considered, he noted he has been a court watcher his whole life, used to watch arguments for fun as a kid. "I would not say no." He added it is Trump's decision."

If confirmed, he would be the first sitting senator named to the Supreme Court since Hugo Black in 1937.

Sen. Ted Cruz , the other former Supreme Court law clerk in the U.S. Senate, threw his support behind Lee Wednesday. "I think the single best choice that President Trump could make to fill this vacancy is Mike Lee," Cruz told Fox News. "The reason why I think he is best choice that President Trump could make is because I know beyond a shadow of a doubt that Mike Lee would be faithful to the Constitution and Bill of Rights."

It was on the AM 660 Dallas Mark Davis radio show. There are likely podcasts. Today or yesterday.

Does the Senate have the votes without Lee? He can’t vote to confirm himself.

Yes, that would be Shiva, Warren's opponent for Senate.

Man the best man or woman be nominated. But I think it’s also good to have our first Asian-American on the Court. And the Indians have been solidly behind America’s core values of hard work and entrepreneurship.

The fact that he voted for Evan McMullin and therefore de facto voted for Hillary Clinton to pick the Supreme Court justices means he can GFH forever.

With Murkowski, Collins, Flake and Corker, I’m not even sure if Senate has the votes for ANY Trump nominee.

Uh huh, the fact that Trump puts him on his list means he is prepared to move on. Not sure why others want to carry a grudge forever when the “victim” himself does not.

And you know that how?

I haven’t seen him sell us out in the Senate.

RE: He is a Never Trumper, they are sellout traitors.

He has a 100% rating from all conservative organizations, including the American Conservative Union.

This is NOT about Trump. This is about holding to conservative/constitutional principles. Hislegislative record speaks for itself.

Yes, and I can trust you over them? No thanks. I prefer the VISIBLE RESULT of his legislative record in Congress. That speaks more than any other.

Well, that does seem to be the problem with establishment republican never trumpers. They always know what’s best for all of us. That’s why they are no longer in charge of anything.

RE: Well, that does seem to be the problem with establishment republican never trumpers. They always know what’s best for all of us.

And how does the above statement apply to Mike Lee? Trump does not seem to think that he is a person who “knows what’s best for us all”.

If He did, we would not be in his top 25 list.

A name on a list that will never, ever be chosen. IF the President put it there, it was to assuage somebody. He will not be the pick.
