92% of Republicans think media intentionally reports fake news. 53% of Democrats think likewise

Nearly all Republicans and Republican-leaning independents (92%) say that traditional news outlets knowingly report false or misleading stories at least sometimes, according to a new Axios/SurveyMonkey poll. Democrats and non-leaning independents also feel this way, but not nearly to the same extent.

Data: SurveyMonkey poll conducted June 15-19, 2018. Poll methodology; Chart: Axios Visuals

Why it matters: The data shows that trust in the media is heavily influenced by partisan politics, with Republicans more skeptical of mainstream media than their Democratic and Independent counterparts. Other studies from Gallup and Pew Research Center have drawn similar conclusions.

Across the board, trust in traditional news outlets continues to sink, with the overwhelming majority of Americans (70%) saying that "traditional major news sources report news they know to be fake, false, or purposely misleading."

Bad intentions: Among those that think traditional news outlets report false news, most think they do so intentionally.

Most people say they can spot a fake piece of news. And while Republicans are much less likely to trust that traditional news sources publish real news, they and Democrats are both mostly confident, 78% and 73% respectively, in their ability to identify whether a piece of news as fake.

When it comes to vetting news sources, roughly half of both parties say they, “stick to news sources they trust.” However, Democrats are more likely to take additional steps to verify what they’ve read than Republicans, according to survey responses.

Methodology: This SurveyMonkey/Axios online poll was conducted June 15-19, 2018 among a total sample of 3,936 adults, selected from the nearly 3 million people who take surveys on the SurveyMonkey platform each day. The modeled error estimate for the full sample is plus or minus 2.5 percentage points. The full breakdown by demographics is located here.

Fake news is primarily accomplished by reporting stories which are largely factual but emphasized waaaaay beyond any true significance.

Nearly half of Democrats (44%) say they check a website URL to verify its validity compared to 29% of Republicans and 36% of independents.

The Washington Post writes a story using ghost sources and made up stuff.

Then all the other fake outlets start their own fake stories with......according to a story in the Washington Post.....

The worst liars are those who could never be convicted of lying in a court of law, they say things that are technically true but leave a totally false impression. If you were wrongfully convicted of murder and given a choice of being eaten alive by rats, burned at the stake or shot between the eyes and you opted for the bullet they would report that you,”Chose to be shot.”

“Largely factual” is a stretch, IMHO.

Possibly “a scintilla factual”, in many cases.

Democrats are more likely to take additional steps to verify what they’ve read than Republicans, according to survey responses.

More than half of Democrats (57%) say they use Google search to verify facts compared to 48% of Republicans and 55% of independents.
Nearly half of Democrats (43%) say they use a fact-checking website (e.g. FactCheck.org or Snopes.com) to verify facts compared to 30% of Republicans and 29% of independents.
Nearly half of Democrats (44%) say they check a website URL to verify its validity compared to 29% of Republicans and 36% of independents

So to verify leftist fakenews, they go to leftist google, leftist fact checkers and look at the url?

Where’s that gif “OK Then”

I don’t believe that dims check on the validity of news more than Republicans. Other than dim go to snopes & believe everything they say b/c they know their biased in their favor. I guess if it’s true it’s b/c Republican’s have jobs, thus less extra time vs the no job dims population.

OK, then how does any Democrat win an Election?

Oh I get it, the Democrats think the Media is biased towards Conservatives and Republicans.

Remember, 95% of so called Journalists are self admitted Democrats, Liberals, Progressives and Socialists*.

Of the remaining 5%, four out of five are Liars.

*According to Hillary Clinton, the Butcheress of Benghazi and Uranium Saleswoman of the Century, 40% of Democrats are Socialists. What she neglected to mention is that half of the remaining 60% are full blown Communists while the other 30% may actually be Sane, although that is still subject to interpretation..

Fake news = opinion polls that are very slanted/biased, experts that are really Dem operatives, leaks from unnamed sources, news items that are true but inconsequential and slanted to arouse Dems' sensitive emotions. Talking points of the NY Times repeated over and over by every source. Totally untrue news that is on page 1 but the retraction 3 days later is on page 34 at the bottom of the page.

We all know how the MSN tries to stack the opinion deck.
