Something is rising from the depths.
A vast mass of hot rock is welling up underneath Vermont and extending into other subterranean regions below New England, new research shows.
Scientists used a network of thousands of seismic measurement devices in the largest geological study of its kind, detecting the enormous blob upwelling under Vermont, New Hampshire, and Massachusetts – and possibly elsewhere.

The earth’s magnetic field has been moving rapidly over the arctic towards Russia, and no physical location of the magnetic north pole has been possible for some time. That’s because when it moves faster in a particular direction, it moves back and forth more quickly, too.
It moves more now, because the outer core is moving more. It’s moving around faster and moving across faster. So yes, there will be some extra seismic and volcanic activity (also more methane leakage, drought and temperature fluctuations, etc.). The outer surface of the outer core is not smooth like glass. The more fluid parts move up and down against the less fluid parts.
Anyway, have fun with the new New England Caldera. Maybe resulting hot springs will allow for more tourism someday.
Sorry. That was hyperbolic of me. Agreed that it might not surface. But they did have a look because of recent, new geo-events brought to their attention. As to whether there could be an eruption or what kind, that depends on what’s in the strata beneath the area. My guess would be a slow one, because there might be no established hard dome under the area from previous lava blobs.
In 50 million years it might erupt.
Or not.
Why do they do that? Get you all excited then say we’re talking tens of millions of years from now... I hate that. I don’t thinks I will much care by then!

Congress is already investigating ties between this blob of molten magma and Russia. It is clear that Trump has allowed this magma to flow freely, and he got the technology from Vladimir Putin. In other news, Tom Arnold says he is now gender neutral, and Hillary Clinton will run for president again in 2064.
