Stephanie Wilkinson was at home Friday evening nearly 200 miles from the White House when the choice presented itself.
Her phone rang about 8 p.m. It was the chef at the Red Hen, the tiny farm-to-table restaurant that she co-owned just off Main Street in Lexington, Va.
Sarah Huckabee Sanders had just walked in and sat down, the chef informed her.
He said the staff is a little concerned. What should we do? Wilkinson told The Washington Post. I said Id be down to see if its true.
It seemed unlikely to her that President Trumps press secretary should be dining at a 26-seat restaurant in rural Virginia. But then, it was unlikely that her entire staff would have misidentified Sanders, who had arrived last to a table of eight booked under her husbands name.
As she made the short drive to the Red Hen, Wilkinson knew only this:
She knew Lexington, population 7,000, had voted overwhelmingly against Trump in a county that voted overwhelmingly for him. She knew the community was deeply divided over such issues as Confederate flags. She knew, she said, that her restaurant and its half-dozen servers and cooks had managed to stay in business for 10 years by keeping politics off the menu.
And she knew she believed that Sarah Huckabee Sanders worked in the service of an inhumane and unethical administration. That she publicly defended the presidents cruelest policies, and that that could not stand.
Im not a huge fan of confrontation, Wilkinson said. I have a business, and I want the business to thrive. This feels like the moment in our democracy when people have to make uncomfortable actions and decisions to uphold their morals.

The intolerant gay employees made the decision to kick her out. That is the story.
Horseshit. There’s no comparison between refusing to serve someone (as you would anyone else) and refusing to use your talents to create something immoral, and if you can’t see that you’re blind.
Phone call never should Have been made. Restaurant full of loser employees. Talk about rights being violated.
Thank for the picture of the owner.
Much better looking than I pictured.
Sorry to sound a—bray—sive.
From article I linked, above.....
According to her LinkedIn profile, Wilkinson has been the executive director of Main Street Lexington since 2014. According to Main Streets website, the organizations purpose is to enhance the economic prosperity and cultural viability of our community, re-establishing downtown Lexington as the vibrant economic and cultural nexus of our area while maintaining its unique character.
The volunteer organization was established in 2013. Its purpose is to revitalize the downtown with the goals of making Lexington bustling with people living downtown, a hub of innovation, art and technology, and a magnet for destination travelers.
What an enormous dumb@$$.....THIS is how she goes about ‘revitalizing’ downtown Lexington??? By saying that over half of the US voting public is NOT welcome to their area?
Got it, Lexington, VA.
You will NEVER have to worry about ME spending MY hard earned $$ in your town....thanks to Stephanie “Commie Witch” Wilkinson.
Making a reservation under someone else’s name makes perfectly good sense for someone who is in the public eye and wants to avoid publicity or a confrontation.
Red Hen = Commie Chick
Lexington is an independent city, despite being the county seat (such a silly political quirk in VA) it is not actually "in" Rockbridge county.
Anyway, Sanders should sue this (Cnut the Great), the diner is place of public accommodation. Disgusting story, is this (Cnut the Great) looking for publicity ahead of a run for office as a democrat?
Nothing there about politics.
Also, contact: Main Street Lexington 540-319-4181 to let them know bigotry is not acceptable.
The owner of the hate restaurant is reportedly the executive director of Main Street.
Jim Crow 2.0
Brought to you again by the Democrats
How exactly is this different from the Christian baker sued over the wedding cake?
That, and probably the illegals she employs in the kitchen. It would be a shame if ICE paid a visit this week.
>>Expect youll be out of business in 6 months or less. The thought makes me smile.

I hope the conservative media stays on this and gives a status report by December. Merry Christmas!
Obviously, she is not familiar with the Supreme Court decisions in Katzenbach v. McClung or the Heart of Atlanta Hotel case. Public places of accommodation are not supposed to turn away paying customers.
The only thing that may weight against the White House Press Secretary is whether or not her political leanings are not protected under the law. Race, religion and sex based discrimination are a simpler matters for a lawsuit.
The Wash Compost, backing bullying and inciting incivility. Terrible people there indeed.
I can see a wonderful T-shirt opportunity here.

At this point, what sane person would risk eating any food foaming-at-the-mouth libs would serve? No sale!
The owner is fishing for sympathy and understanding - validation even.
Dollars to doughnuts that many of her customers (particularly the high-tipping ones) voted for Trump.
If a restaurant doesn't want my business, I really would appreciate it if they say so on their website or on their door. Then I can go somewhere else without wasting my time. Horrors that I might say something to others at my table in a private conversation that would make some snowflake melt, and then they will **** in my soup.
