Californians would be asked in a November ballot measure whether to end the biannual practice of moving their clocks ahead and back to comply with the Daylight Saving Time Act, under a bill the Assembly approved Thursday and sent to Gov. Jerry Brown for consideration.
This bill creates a pathway for California to stay on daylight saving time year-round, Assemblyman Kansen Chu (D-San Jose) told his colleagues before they voted 63-4 to approve his bill.
"AB 807 is aimed to dramatically improve public health, Chu said. Studies have shown that when we switch our clocks, that action alone increases the chances for heart attacks, workplace injuries, crime and traffic accidents.

Note, the Navajo Res. is the only part of AZ that practice daylight saving time. Moral: Don’t buy any blankets off of the Navajo.
Thanks to Jerry Brown's outstanding leadership CA now has no economic, criminal, or social problems they now have time to deal with the really important stuff.
“Not so. Arizona has been this way for a long time.”
As I recall, AZ stays on Standard Time year round. It does create some interesting things though. You can fly from Phoenix to Las Vegas in the Summer and arrive before the time you left because the flight takes less than an hour!
I thought the same, so I went to the dictionaries. According to the Oxford English Dictionary, “biannual” can mean either twice in a year or once every two years. This was news to me, since I had learned that “biannual” (or preferably “biennial”) only meant once every two years. Merriam Webster’s Collegiate Dictionary defined “biannual” as twice a year, but defined “biennial” as once every two years. Confusing, no?
I agree that “semiannual” should be used when the writer means twice a year.
They could save energy if they voted to end summer.
In the summer, AZ (except for the Navajo Reservation) and NV are on the same time. It may work that way in the winter, when NV goes back to PST and AZ remains on MST.
Great idea, if the northern states set the clock ahead 3 months in October they could eliminate Winter cold. If the southern states set the clock ahead 3 months in June they could eliminate the Summer heat. If Nevada could set its western boundary 300 miles west they could eliminate California. The opportunities are endless. /sarc
Why not just keep the welfare and voter registration offices open an hour later, so the illegal aliens aren’t inconvenienced?
Stupid Indiana caved to DST years ago. At least we still have our own time zone on computers.
Yes. Pick one or the other.
Great post
Californians don’t know what daylight is they have been in the dark for years.
The governor told the folks in Rio Linda that 1 hour less sunlight would help stop Global Warming. /g
Actually Calif. should go to a new calander, BJB , Before Jerry Brown.
This year would be 7 BJB.
Nobody really “adopts Daylight Saving Time” year round. What California would basically be doing here is putting itself one time zone further west (Alaska Standard Time), and eliminating DST entirely.
Daylight Saving Time is kind of pointless when you’re closer to the equator, since the length of the days doesn’t vary much between winter and summer.
Nice to see they have their priorities straight.
Fall Back And Stay There.
In Tuba City Arizona, the main street runs between the Navajo and Hopi reservations. One observes daylight savings time, and the other doesn’t. I forget which is which. This makes it very difficult to show up anywhere, like for a movie, on time.
On a related note, this jackass talks about health and heart attacks but these gas bags never suffer the Widow Maker? I might pay a quarter to see that go down.
