WASHINGTON (AP) President Donald Trump on Friday told his fellow Republicans in Congress to "stop wasting their time" on immigration legislation until after November, dismissing his party's struggle to surmount internal divisions.
Trump's tweets come just days after he insisted Congress needed to act to resolve the problems at the U.S.-Mexico border. But stubborn differences between conservative and more moderate Republicans in the House have stalled immigration legislation on Capitol Hill, with a vote on a compromise measure delayed until next week.
Trump said Friday that even if a measure passes, it's doomed in the Senate.
"Republicans should stop wasting their time on Immigration until after we elect more Senators and Congressmen/women in November," he tweeted. "Dems are just playing games, have no intention of doing anything to solves this decades old problem. We can pass great legislation after the Red Wave!"
Trump's comments come amid an international outcry over the separation of migrant families at the southern border. Trump asserted Thursday that Congress could provide the "only real solution" to the crisis.
They also follow on days of congressional wrangling as GOP leadership had been hoping Trump could help sell immigration legislation to wary members. The last ditch effort on immigration ahead of the midterm elections was meant to help vulnerable Republicans this fall.

I think he's embarrassed for them.
Politically immigration is a loser, except at the very local level.
Globalists hate Trump for upsetting their world theft ring and expect to stall and buy the next election.
He’s right of course. There will be no legislation
All illegals can continue to be in jail with their kids while speedy hearings determine they will immediately deported.
Appeals? the appeal can be directed from mexico.
Illegal immigrants with kids? Out of sight, out of mind
The problem is that even if the Republicans retain the House and pick up a seat or three in the Senate, Congress is going to continue to produce crap sandwiches. Neither house has any real leadership. Both have fractures within the GOP membership that will make it hard to pass anything. It’s a total circus. If Trump wants something done then he’s going to have to take a more direct hand in creating the kind of legislation he wants to sign. McConnell can’t do it, and neither will Ryan’s replacement.
Is it your suggestion that those who wish to restrict illegal immigration are on the losing end of politics?
NONE of the polls say that.
If truth be told there are plenty of Democrats, outside the west coast and the northeast, who oppose illegal immigration. The globalists are afraid the president is starting to appeal to them in bigger numbers. Thats why you see the nonstop assault on him!
I think that the main reason that the DoD isnt actively building the fence right now is that President Trump needed to let the RINOs and DC UniParty show the country that they are the primary reason for the Imigration fiasco.
Now, in November, we can clean house!
He knew all along there would be no immigration bill landing on his desk. As did the rest of us.
Certainly nothing he would sign.
The ONLY thing that will pass the Senate is full Amnesty and Welcome signs at the border.
Amnesty is the only answer that is acceptable to Bush League Republicans.
They do not want US sending home the 30 million people they invited here against the will of the citizens with their 30 year bipartisan policy of non-enforcement.
Bush League Republicans must become extinct before the Republic does.
Now, in November, we can clean house!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The Primary is where we get rid of Bush League Republicans.
November is too late.
Electing the same Cheap Labor Express stooges gains US nothing.
Try a 58 year bipartisan policy of non-enforcement.
The LAST administration who did anything about border enforcement was Ike's.
Every since then it has been twiddle thumbs and close eyes.
Let me suggest to you that those who wish to restrict illegal immigration by enforcement means only are on the losing end of politics.
He understands that whatever the republicans put forth, the dems will block. They want nothing short of full amnesty and open borders.
“McConnell cant do it, and neither will Ryans replacement.”
Au Contrare! McConnell WON’T DO IT, but Ryan’s replacement, if it’s Jim Jordan, could really get the ball rolling. The problem ends up being the Senate, and with only 8 up this time, we can’t get rid of enough of the GOPE there to blast McConnell out of his chair. But we’re missing the opportunity of a lifetime with 27 RATS up, and by reason of the GOPE’s behavior, many of those ( maybe as many as ten or twelve) are slipping through our fingers for November.
That's the whole story here.
Not reflected in any way by the AP headline, of course.
Exactly. Unlike the President, pretty much all of them are puppets for big business and their corporate donors. Some may have come in like that. Ryan being one of them, as he’s never held a real job and was an aide prior to getting elected. So, he was already a veteran to the game. They learned long ago to not give a damn about their constituents. They know that at election time, they’ll get the nod and people will vote for them, only because they like the other guy, less. And that is good enough for them. Absolutely ZERO INTEGRITY!!!
The President knows this. He’s playing the waiting game. Get a few more, Pro Trump folks in there and then start going thru the place like a wrecking ball. Toss in 2-3 SCOTUS appointments and we’re off to the MuthaF**Kin’ races, folks!!!
So many underestimated this man. And at times I’ve been a bit leery of some things, but not anymore. He’s telling Ryan, et al, don’t even bother with your BS. I’m not having any of it. Go tell the Kochs and the Chamber of Commerce to pound sand up their respective a$$es.
And yet here just yesterday, some Freepers were bashing President Trump for “folding” and peeing in their pants that they were betrayed.
I love this guy...
