Oh, I think that any such branch of service will quickly act to justify a manned presence in space and that their astronauts will be just as proud and manly as any fighter pilot.
Especially the lesbians.
Your sarcasm observed. Seriously, as a DoD ‘branch’ a space force would get their requirements from the CoCom’s, as is the case for all the services. I don’t see any of the combatant commanders calling for billions to support men in space any time soon.
Assets in place versus the current method of launching is intenable in a action, of course depending on the methods used by the aggressor. For instance if we look at a space based laser we omit issues of atmosphere etc. from diffusing the beam. Also at that altitude we have a broader field of view and actionable space as well as recon and surveillance capability.
To put it simply, if they have birds in the air what can be done but try to knock them, down even if terrestrial line of sight is impaired, or use strategically placed stations outside the atmosphere and catch them outside that envelope or near to it as they wait for the earths rotation to come back down again.
Think Anti artillery to use an older model
Air Force is a more regional force with specific functions and targets, think of the 2 main elements, Strategy & Tactics. and in that guise slow moving aircraft flying insane distances even in stealth mode are utilized in a different way
JMHO
The only reasons he gave were the cost and that they were "provocative".
It will be interesting who composes the theme song.
Me, too. Lol
More bureaucracy
Indeed!
What revealed by Philip Corso?
Re-invigorate Shuttle program.
Is there a base on the moon yet?
Larry Heinlein lives!
Will reply in the morning.
Doesnt take much more than a cursory search on the web/youtube to discover the UFO phenomenon is real. I rather suspect that is one if not the primary reason for a space force.
Great question. He may have more info from his uncle John who was tasked by the Gov with sorting through Tesla’s effects after Tesla’s death. Hard to say.
I don't understand going with archaic equipment that was outdated from before the first flight. We have so much better.
When the Space Age was just beginning, one guy opined that the U.S. Navy should be put in charge of space operations, since they were used to the logistics of supplying far flung operations. Made sense to me.
I gott be honest. This whole Space Force thing sounds goofy to me. And I’m a guy who watched Armstrong and Aldrin walk on the moon. Nothing would please me more than to see the United States be in a position to direct our ingenuity and resources to accomplish such feats again.
But where is this need for such a force coming from? How did it suddenly spring up when we can’t even secure the border? Or sail warships without the real threat of one being rammed by a container ship? Or produce officers from our service academies that are not prepared to defend the Constitution?
Are we trying to create something that’s akin to the Soviet/Russian Strategic Rocket Forces? Or will this be a real, space-borne force that will operate routinely in space? This sounds like something big that we really can’t afford as a nation right now or for quite a long time. Let’s get the government we have in order first.
The same argument could’ve been used in 1947. We seemed to do fine in two world wars with an Army Air Corps. Most of the characters in Hogan’s Heroes were in the Army.
