New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy responded to Sunday's deadly shooting at a Trenton arts festival by calling for new controls on guns. But a suspects gang membership -- and early release from prison after Murphy took office -- may have been bigger factors in an incident that left one person dead and 22 wounded.
Meanwhile, Murphy -- a first-term Democrat in his first elected office -- supports shorter sentences for offenders and cuts in prisoner rehabilitation programs.
The suspect, identified as Tahaji Wells, 33, opened fire before 3 a.m. at the Art All Night festival in New Jersey's capital city, in what appears to have been a gang-related dispute. Wells was reportedly killed by police, and 17 of the 22 people injured reportedly suffered gunshot wounds.

The man is a total jackass.
Tahaji. Is that an Amish name?
What, law-abiding taxpayers not fleeing NJ fast enough for ya, Murphy?
Bwah hah hah hah hah...
A little less than 6 years before I retire and leave NJ. I live in a conservative area (Northwest corner of the state) and it is hell to have this ass-clown in Trenton. Ugh.
One thing for sure: people in NJ will never figure it out!
Until we see national repentance, revival and a restoration of a God-fearing culture, this will only get worse.
Politicians are the worst enablers of violent crime--they have destroyed our once faith-based Republic and cater to whatever meme they believe will get them re-elected.
Payday is acomin' for these criminals, including the ones who have mocked God.
NJ has strict "may issue" concealed carry laws. You have a better chance of seeing the Easter Bunny than a NJ carry permit. In turn, the chance of being a victim of violent crime in Trenton is 1 in 74.
PA carry permits are very easy to obtain. In turn, the chance of being a victim of violent crime in Morrisville is 1 in 855.
I don't get it. How is this possible? /sarc
And thus accurately represents the majority of NJ voters
I don't see the sign "Leaving American Sector" on the bridge. Did vandals from NJ remove it?
You mean like Hillary and the turd who formerly befouled the white hut? Sorry friend, I don't see that happening any time soon. Oh an BTW gun control doesn't control guns it DOES control people.
Typical, failed knee-jerk leftism.
One has to wonder if this shooting would have occurred or even been planned if it were known other guns would be present. Our society disarms citizens to allow mad dogs free reign. The media joked when Florida right to carry went into effect, calling it the “gunshine” state. But with reductions in crime and no “Wild West shootouts as predicted, other states followed suit. It’s time for New Jersey and other states to recognize that more guns actually means less crime and less fatalities in the case of mass shootings.
What would have been BIG ASS factors if the perp would have went after the Gov.
Now what kind of dumbass is the dumbass Gov?
The people of NJ....must be as dumbass.
As if New Jersey wasn’t worthless ENOUGH . . . now they have to elect THIS pea-brain for Governor.
The consequences of being soft on crime.
And many citizens.
Plus add in meth...and it gets real complicated.....
You're making a common mistake in assuming that NJ politicians want to pass gun control to reduce crime. They couldn't care less about crime. They know that guns don't cause crime. Their goal is and always has been to disarm the law abiding populace so as to ensure that there can be no effective resistance to the most extreme tyranny. They aren't stupid or misguided. They are simply evil.
When Democrats like Pelosi, Schumer, the turd, etc. look at Stalin's Russia, Hitler's Germany, Pol Pot's Cambodia, they aren't horrified by what the government did to their citizens. They think to themselves - "Wow wouldn't it be great if I could exert that level of control of the little people here." Speak a dissident thought and go to jail or worse. It's what every Democrat politician dreams of for the USA. And any fool who thinks "It can't happen here." makes that false assumption that somehow human nature is different in the USA than it is in other countries. Not true.
