The White House said Friday that President Trump supports House legislation that closely tracks his priorities on border security and limiting legal immigration, walking back comments he made on national television rejecting the GOP bill.
The reversal came after hours of confusion on Capitol Hill, where Trumps words roiled an already fragile internal debate between conservative and moderate House Republicans who have been trying to find an immigration compromise after months of false starts.
The president fully supports both the Goodlatte bill and the House leadership bill, White House spokesman Raj Shah said, referring to legislation drafted by House Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte (R-Va.) and a separate compromise measure.
Shah said Trump, during his Fox and Friends interview, was referring to an effort led by moderate House Republicans to force a series of immigration votes over the objections of the GOP leadership. Another senior White House official said Trump misunderstood the question that was posed to him, which prompted the president to say that he certainly wouldnt sign the more moderate one.
House Republican leaders had teed up action on two immigration measures: a hard-line draft written by Goodlatte and legislation billed as a compromise between the moderate and conservative factions of the GOP conference.
The draft compromise bill released Thursday was written with White House input, including from top Trump immigration adviser Stephen Miller, and closely hews to the four pillars the administration set out in a January framework.

Right. But the President has been back and forth on this all day, as at first he misunderstood the question that was tossed at him.
I just now watched a clip in which PDJT said, “I fully support the Goodlatte bill.”
I don’t take that as the last word either. Bill Hemming and Mollie Hemingway on Fox news are saying thet don’t even think a bill will come to a vote...Congress will wait until after the midterms (there’s something new) because of all the crap that his been tucked away in even the good bill.
I could do without the DACA CACA and the Dreamers, but if it gives us the wall, we should probably take it.

BULLCRAP! The RINO open-borders Globalists know that many of the Amnesty RINOs in Congress (wisely) arent running for re-election and will be replaced by MAGA Patriots. They are desperate to pass Amnesty while they still potentially have the numbers to pass this ANTI-AMERICAN legislation. Well be in a far stronger position after the November election. WE CAN WAIT!
They Wall was voted FOR by Congress in about 2006. They also funded money- but I do NOT remember how much.
Why should there have to be another vote to build THE WALL ???
“First-time thread post. Thanks.”
From the Washington Post.
Such insight.
Trump is purposely confusing them. Very much doubt he wants to see a bill on his desk.
That’s what ‘YOU’ want, but then you’re not doing the deal.
Trump’s going to get what he can without throwing the baby out with the bathwater. At issues is ‘AS USUAL’ the GOP and the Conservatives haven’t a clue what standing TOGETHER really is.......
HE’s not going to be the one holding things up......he’s put it in their laps to do but as so often happens the conservatives and the gop can’t get their heads out of their rear-ends long enough to get the job done that the Pres. has asked for.
Yes it funds the WALL.
IT funds the Wall.....$25 billion for border wall
Unless we do something about Congress in November, this kind of BS will continue...
President Trump is trying to do his best, but he needs help....OUR HELP.....
It limits visas for extended family members and shifts to a merit-based immigration system. The young Dreamers, who have been living in the United States illegally since childhood, could apply for legal status for six years. Applicants could gain points for education or other skills. Eventually, they could apply for citizenship.
The bill beefs up enforcement of immigration laws and ends the diversity visa lottery for immigrants from underrepresented countries, among other things.
I thought that too. When the President doesn’t want to deal with something immediately, he raises Cain on another front...works for me lol.
Great.
We’ll get most of what we want, but most likely in small increments, vs one hot steaming platter of ‘Win’.
This is why WaPo is the king of Fake News.
see post 33
What part is fake?
Nobody’s getting amnesty.
A wall was funded under George W. Bush, and only 5 miles was built. They’ll pass amnesty, but the wall won’t be built.
