You can’t be friends with people who disagree with you about politics. At least that’s what Salon wants you to think.
Salon political staff writer Chauncey Devega commands you to cut Trump supporters completely out of your life, saying that, “If you have friends or relatives who support Donald Trump you should confront them. Explain to them that they are complicit with Trump's cruelty and sadism.”
Then he tells her readers to, “communicate that you will no longer speak with them, nor will you offer them emotional, financial or other types of support until they denounce Donald Trump and what he represents — and make amends through speech and action.” A public confession, rending of the garments, self-flagellation, etc.
Chauncey sounds nice, doesn’t he? No wonder progressives are so miserable -- they’re incapable of compartmentalizing. Just ask noted hockey fan and parade enthusiast David Corn.

I’m older that a lot of you and can remember the 1968 Dem Convention very well. That was when there were real “conservative Dems.” Scoop Jackson was a patriotic Dem senator who opposed the Lib tide that was already beginning to fight to take over the Dem party.
Anyway, the riots that took place were just scattered, even the race riots. Most of the country had no violence and was disgusted by it. This is what brought Nixon to power. I am afraid that the violence will be most more widespread if Trump wins a second term.
They've said over and over again, that they don't want to "normalize Trump." But what they're doing here is actually dehumanizing those with whom they disagree. Former friends are relative are "dead to you?" Gee, that's exactly what Mao, Hitler, and Stalin demanded of their people in order to slaughter them by the tens of millions.
I have never "unfriended" the hard core leftist "friends" I have on FB, though I rarely go there any more, and when I do, I have to admit I do enjoy tweaking them at times. But I have been "unfriended" by dozens of people on FB. I am dead to them. That's find. But when I was unfriended by a couple of family members, well that got me to thinking that was exactly how it starts. Children informing on their parents. Neighbors and co-workers informing. Then the short walk to liquidation.

Chauncey Devega must not be familiar with the Western construct of inheritance and how potential beneficiaries should watch their p-s and q-s at the risk of being left out in the cold over shows of disrespect.
But his mindset does give a glimpse into why there are so many ongoing conflicts in places like South America and Africa - everybody’s walking around with chips on their shoulders and are taught to unconditionally hate anyone who disagrees with their viewpoint. 100 politicians shot in Mexico this election season - by people who think like Chauncey - and it’s not even primary day.
Liberals can’t take jokes or sarcasm. CBS went crazy when Trump made the remark about “his people” being attentive to what he says the ay Rocket Man’s People do.
Of course he was joking around, but context means nothing to a Leftist on a mission.
BTW, it was Obama who told his Supporters when “they” (that would be us) bring a Knife, you bring a Gun.
Imagine POTUS Trump saying the exact same thing.

But it really is true that most of them abhor the name of God or Jesus, and smiling at them may just be the thing to really get their attention.
