You can’t be friends with people who disagree with you about politics. At least that’s what Salon wants you to think.
Salon political staff writer Chauncey Devega commands you to cut Trump supporters completely out of your life, saying that, “If you have friends or relatives who support Donald Trump you should confront them. Explain to them that they are complicit with Trump's cruelty and sadism.”
Then he tells her readers to, “communicate that you will no longer speak with them, nor will you offer them emotional, financial or other types of support until they denounce Donald Trump and what he represents — and make amends through speech and action.” A public confession, rending of the garments, self-flagellation, etc.
Chauncey sounds nice, doesn’t he? No wonder progressives are so miserable -- they’re incapable of compartmentalizing. Just ask noted hockey fan and parade enthusiast David Corn.

My brother - who has a severe case of Trump Derangement Syndrome - started calling me names the other day when our phone conversation drifted into politics. I hung up on him and I’m not calling him.
People have the right to their opinions. They do not have the right to be obnoxious, insulting, intolerant jerks. This “I’m not going to talk to you” stuff works both ways and there’s no reason we should have to put up with their infantile crap.
My lefty friends know they face blowback if they challenge my worldview. As a result, they do not. There are many topics for conversation. It takes a supremely incurious and boring dolt to fashion interests around politics alone

Had an idiot customer tell me she was at a builder’s seminar where she was aghast to hear one of the other contractors state he was glad an honest man was in the White House finally.
According to her, Trump is a liar so therefore this contractor must be a liar too in his business dealings.
I just tell my lib relatives and friends - that both parties have screwed this country for decades and put us into ridiculous debt - it was time for something new, an outsider who is not beholden to either party.
I’m not dismissing their insane spew as cavalierly as some others are. There will come a time when people like them have all the political power and our choices will be limited; fight or submit. Many see this coming down the road but unfortunately others are choosing to ignore the reality.
HeClinton and Obama and SheClinton supporting acquaintances have been dead to me for decades.

Former girlfriend posted on Facebook hoping those who voted for Trump are happy. She has pre-existing med condition and was all into Obama promising the world. I posted that I stopped supporting her when we stopped dating. No more meals for you!!LOL

Political obsession is, unfortunately, communicable. I’ve seen several of my friends come down with it to the detriment of their very health, and I’m not exaggerating: blood pressure, anxiety, anger issues, and what they do to treat it is more of the same media addiction that caused it. My advice, and so far it has never been taken, is that if something hurts you, stop doing it.
