Michigan Democrats propose lowering voting age to 16 BY JUSTIN WISE 34 TWEET SHARE MORE Two Michigan state lawmakers have introduced a proposal that would lower the voting age to 16 for state elections.
Rep. Yousef Rabhi (D) and Sen. David Knezek (D) introduced bills in both the House and Senate on Tuesday.
Knezek told the Detroit Free Press that 16-year-olds should be able to vote if they are old enough to get a job and pay taxes.
"Young people are setting aside their differences and identifying issues they think need to change," he said, referring to the outpouring of student activism in the wake of recent school shootings. "And they can do everything to get that change except vote." Changes to the U.S. and Michigan constitutions would be needed to lower the voting age, the Free Press noted, adding that a supermajority in the state's House and the Senate would be required to change the state's Constitution. That's not likely, it said, considering Republicans control both chambers.
Congress would also have to pass a measure and then send it back to the states for ratification. The nationwide voting age was last changed in 1971, from 21 to 18.
"People are trying to turn this into a partisan issue, but its a voting issue," Knezek said. "Its integral in ensuring our democracy can survive in the United States."
After a school shooting in Parkland, Fla., left 17 people dead, students from around the country have led protests to keep conversations about gun violence at the center of the news. Students have targeted their efforts at the National Rifle Association and politicians who have received donations from the group.
Students from Parkland announced in early June they'd be going on a nationwide bus tour to register young people to vote.
Democrats propose registering unborn to vote. All those aborted will be deemed to have voted democrat since the dead automatically vote democrat.
Obama already set the age of adulthood at 26.
Works for me
What could possibly go wrong if we let children vote? A typical liberal stunt using kids as props and campaigning on blood and emotions. If this country did not have the Electoral College, it would have been finished decades ago. Our “Democracy” would be run by big states, urban areas, radicals, oligarchs, corrupticrats, libtard children young and old plus every third world POS that waltzes right over the border. Then again, that’s where we are headed.
Cannot legally purchase cigarettes until 18 in Michigan, but 21in NJ and NY

In the early days, you had to be a property owner as well.
DemocRats think 12 is old enough to have sex and an abortion without a parent’s consent, 16 old enough to vote, 18 old enough to buy marijuana, but 20 too young to be trusted with a gun.
The teachers unions all love the idea that they can brainwash young kids for 6 hours a day, control their grades then send them into a voting booth.
Not only a very bad idea but rather astonishingly stupid.
.....and going off to fight and die in war.
Wild in the Streets
I am reminded of the short story in ESQUIRE fifty years ago that was made into the movie WILD IN THE STREETS.
Looks like the USA is heading in that direction.
Ooops,forgot...the deceased.
When they admit socialism doesn’t work.
Yes, thank you. Heck SCOTUS ruled if you’re under 18 there cant be mandatory life w/o parole sentence regardless of the crime. Yet dems want 16 year olds to vote. Gmab.
I had to wait until I was 21.
Why not make a BEAT-BOXING voting requirement..?
Or, say, a free-throw completion %
Or they could only admit for voting those persons frightened by pork products.
“...16-year-olds should be able to vote if they are old enough to get a job and pay taxes.”
Of course they do. They want illegals to vote as well.
Personally, I like Robert Heinlein’s voting scheme from the “Starship Troopers” universe:
Only military veterans get the vote. Everyone else gets all their rights under the Constitution. But unless you were willing to fight for those rights, you don’t get the vote.
Great!
Also, lower the Draft Age to 16 at the same time!
“Whoa, not so fast,” you say?
‘Rights’ and Responsibilities are two sides of the same coin.
