SINGAPORE - US President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un signed a "comprehensive" document at the end of their summit in Singapore on Tuesday (June 12), as a once unthinkable meeting between foes appears to have yielded progress.
Yet, in what is becoming a signature move from the American president, the specific substance of the deal was left mysterious - awaiting a later reveal at a press conference.
Still, both leaders - who appeared to have developed a rapport over the course of a morning filled with remarkable political theatre - touted the agreement as a significant stride forward.
Mr Kim, Chairman of the State Affairs Commission, said: "Today we had a very historic meeting, overcoming our past history and embarking on a new beginning...the world will see a major change."
Mr Trump, in turn, said a turning point had been reached in the long fraught US-North Korea relationship. "We're both going to do something, and we've developed a very special bond...we're going to take care of a very big and dangerous problem for the rest of the world.
"It worked out far better for both of us than anybody could have expected," he added.
When asked about denuclearisation, he said "we are starting the process very quickly", but did not give any detail.

No nuclear weapons and the US leaves SK? Might work as we can monitor the situation from Japan and the Philippines.
I predict a huge uptick of Korean Generals wearing tall funny hats buying beach front villas on the French Rivieara
I doubt we totally leave South Korea. This is a path, not an event.
What North Korea government wanted most was the promise to not be deposed. Trump has guaranteed this if North Korea transitions to a state similar to.Singapore.
Hey NeverTrumpers, hows that crow tasting right about now?
This feels like the meeting of Nixon with China and later with Russia, when the world changed in an instant.

Oh, how I love this. hee hee hee
Bump
Yes, China was a huge change.
And yes, Russia too.
Yes. I cannot wait for the shoe to drop on the maggots that have been messing with him from the DOJ, FBI, State Department and the rest of the alphabets.
Unlike what happened in Germany and Japan, the NK leadership offers us zero in terms of intelligence or technology. I think most of them will end up dead or in prison.

By forgiving Kim for the seemingly unforgivable, the USA gets vastly more moral leverage in North Korea than it otherwise would have had.
But it’s a forgiveness hedged in by the fear of God. Donald made it quite clear that North Korea would go to hell if it kept up what it was keeping up. And he also made it quite clear to China that they would face a trade hell as well.
Donald isn’t perfect, he’s got rough edges, and I’m not sure he should have tweeted everything that he has tweeted in the way he has tweeted it.
But with all these shortcomings he’s still got a vastly magnanimous side. The USA basically has said through Donald, we will forgive both Kim and entourage and China for their part in the North Korean wickedness, but that forgiveness has to be hemmed in by the fear of God. No more Rocket Man. No more playing North Korea as a pawn. If they try, Donald can send both of them to a geopolitical hell.
So the Satanic Left will be grinding their collective teeth today.
Maybe they should recruit that black-robed tyrant in Hawaii to overturn this agreement.
"Trump is dangerous! An irresponsible maniac!"
Liberal heads are exploding all across the nation.
