Germany's Transport Ministry on Monday said 774,000 Mercedes-Benz vehicles were found to contain unauthorised software defeat devices in Europe and 'ordered' Daimler to recall 238,000 cars in Germany.
"The government will order 238,000 Daimler vehicles to be immediately recalled Germany-wide because of unauthorised defeat devices," the ministry said in a statement. Germany can only order the recall of vehicles within its own borders, or of those vehicles issued with a pan-European road-worthiness certification via German authorities. Daimler has pledged to work on removing the software and to cooperate with authorities, the ministry said. Daimler Chief Executive Dieter Zetsche said on Monday that the carmaker had found a technical solution for updating the software on its vehicles, and he therefore expected the company would avoid a fine. In a separate statement, Daimler confirmed the recall and said the question over 'the legality of the software' would still need to be clarified.

The Germans didn’t get the memo on who to bribe. Notice that nobody is going after US companies?
If anybody ever dug into that, they’d be suing us instead.

If you work on any modern German cars you will understand that is no longer the case. Beautifully over engineered, many with fatal flaws that will set you back 10s of thousands of dollars or make the car too expensive to repair. I own a fleet of German cars and perform the repairs.

How do we know the Russians didn’t hack this to cause liberal voters to vote for Donald Trump instead of Hillary?

A disproportionate share of the Jewish people I lived near, on the East Coast, preferentially drove Mercedes, if they were not driving Cadillacs.

To be clear, I’m pretty sure the affected vehicles (C-class sedans and GLC SUVs) were never sold with diesel engines in the USA.

So all this crap about being more fuel efficient is a crap-load of lies. The fuel efficiency isn't the issue, it's the amount of particulates it generates. Diesel is generally more efficient than gasoline, but it also doesn't burn as cleanly. If the left weren't so down on diesel in general, you'd be seeing diesel-electric cars by now, because if you want to do a 'hybrid', that is proven tech.

Shortly after the Hastings "crash" I had posted in comments in a thread frame by frame analysis of the footage from the pizza shop. There was a flash that appeared and at that same moment the break lights went out and then the crash. But that thread is now gone. There was a lot of research in that thread. Too bad...

Might be but I don't have enough information to look it up. I went to my comments for that time period and they're gone.
