Charles Krauthammer, the beloved and brilliant Fox News Channel personality who gave up a pioneering career in psychiatry to become a Pulitzer Prize-winning political analyst, on Friday revealed the heartbreaking news that he is in the final stages of a losing battle with cancer.
The 68-year-olds incisive takes on politics of the day have been missing from Fox News Channels Special Report for nearly a year as he battled an abdominal tumor and subsequent complications, but colleagues and viewers alike had held out hope that he would return to the evening show he helped establish as must-viewing. But in an eloquent, yet unblinking letter to co-workers, friends and Fox News Channel viewers, Krauthammer disclosed that he has just weeks to live.
I have been uncharacteristically silent these past ten months, the letter began. I had thought that silence would soon be coming to an end, but Im afraid I must tell you now that fate has decided on a different course for me.

I apologize for sounding like I was lecturing.
Yes, I remember having to correct another FReeper at least 3 years back who said Krauthammer was always anti-Obama-—I cited the exact source of CK saying that he was doubtful that Obama was quite ready for the Presidency in 2008, but (somehow) would surely be ready the election cycle after that. He seemed pretty hopeful about an Obama Presidency. The FReeper I conveyed this to never got back to me....he couldn’t believe such a thing from the man who referred to only as “Charles”.
Likewise, I haven’t always agreed with Dr. Krauthammer’s opinions, but I respect him for his thoughtfulness and informed, measured responses. And his wit and humor.
Case in point, Guy Benson, in his Townhall.com reporting of Dr. K’s letter, provided a link to a column CK had written in ‘04. I gotta admit that my laughter was tinged with a sad sense of loss as I read his analysis, “In Defense of the F-word.”

Keep in mind, Krauthammer himself wouldn’t have been the least bit intimidated by my initial post.
Thank you!
That’s an important distinction, I agree. I must say, my hope for Dr. Krauthammer remains the same as posted.
I hope immunotherapy works for you and for the rest of humanity. With my family history, I'm on that list.
Now you are being presumptuous.
Love Charles. Such an amazing example in so many ways. He did not let his disability define him. Brilliant, kind, just so sad. We will save a space just for him in our hearts, and I hope he knows the love of a Savior named Jesus.
Yes, I suppose you’re right.
But it’s very reasonable to presume Charles Krauthammer would not be intimidated by the comments of an average Freeper like me.
I can imagine that now that he is close to death, he would be more humble.
That sounds very likely, and it means there’s even less likelihood that he would be intimidated.
Especially by the comments of some nobody on the internet.

Wow, you are so out of touch with reality. Words and sentiments have meaning, especially to those who are dying and making peace with themselves and their God and it does not matter who says them if they are sincere and positive and supportive.
Krauthhammer or anyone else would not care who said them. There are no “nobodies” when it comes to dying.
The words of a FOOL.
Sometimes agreed and sometimes disagreed but it not joyful to hear he has so little time left with us.
I give you a pass on a stupid, foolish post to me. Sober up.
BTW I am sober, you I'm not sure about.
