We have a difference of opinion on what constitutes a big player. I reserve that definition for the likes of Ted Kennedy, George Soros, and John McCain (to name but three).

There always was a sort of bland sadness to the guy. He usually seems to have a cloud over him - watch how often he genuinely smiles or laughs...almost never.

His close friend Eric Ripert, the French chef, found Bourdain unresponsive in his hotel room Friday morning. Is this is some kind of ultimate "f--- you"?

FR needs a new Virtue Monitor to stop all the hateful rhetoric in this great time of sorrow for our fallen political enemy. I vote for Laz to be our Virtue Monitor!

Laz, I understand what you're saying, but isn't that a little bit like saying, "Hey, we shouldn't celebrate the deaths of the guards of the death camps or the soldiers who pushed the doomed into the railway cars; save it for the big players ..."No, it's not a little bit like saying that. It's EXACTLY like saying that. I suggest that those guards or soldiers were redeemable men, though they succumbed to evil. The Blood of Christ washes even the worst men like Hitler or Stalin, if accepted. Certainly the men of lesser evil could be redeemed by Christ.
However, that is as may be. The important thing on this thread is who WE are, as Free Republic. We have a longstanding tradition of not celebrating on obituary threads, save for the worst of the worst. We are not DU. We don't say "f***" a lot nor do we celebrate on obituary threads.
