Will More Blacks Vote Republican? (If They Are Smart, They Will)

As we churn through primary season, laying the framework for November's elections, we're seeing the emergence of a new face of the Democratic Party -- more progressive, more left wing.

The Democratic Party is delivering more candidates around the nation like Stacey Abrams, recently nominated for governor in Georgia. She's unabashedly boilerplate, in-your-face, hard left. Pro-big government, pro-abortion, pro-LGBT rights.

Recent Wall Street Journal/NBC polling shows how the Democratic Party has changed. In 2004, 67 percent of Democrats identified as moderate or conservative and 31 percent identified as liberal. In 2018, we see a shift to the left of 20 points. Forty-seven percent identify as moderate or conservative and 51 percent as liberal.

Amidst all this, what might we expect from blacks, Democrats' most consistent voting bloc? In 14 presidential elections since 1964, Democratic candidates captured an average 88 percent of the black vote. But blacks generally don't fit the new far-left profile.

According to recent data from the Pew Research Center, black Democrats have very little religiously in common with white Democrats. Religious behavior of black Democrats is much more closely aligned with white Republicans.

Forty-seven percent of black Democrats say they attend church at least weekly, compared to 45 percent of white Republicans and 22 percent of white Democrats.

Ninety-two percent of black Protestants say they believe in God as described in the Bible, compared to 70 percent of Republicans and 45 percent of Democrats.

But it's not just religious attitudes that raise questions about black monolithic affinity for the Democratic Party.

In the Pew Religious Landscape study published in 2014, 36 percent of historically black Protestants described themselves as conservative and 24 percent as liberal.

Regarding the role of government, 23 percent of historically black Protestants say they prefer smaller government and fewer services and 70 percent say they prefer larger government and more services.

Regarding government aid to the poor, 27 percent of historically black Protestants say government does more harm than good and 66 percent say government does more good than harm.

You might say that these responses regarding the role of government explain why blacks vote disproportionately for Democrats.

But that's not correct.

The data reported above is for what Pew defines as "historically black protestant" -- which, according to Pew, consists of 53 percent of all blacks. However, according to Pew, 79 percent of blacks identify as Christian.

Pew reports in addition to 47 percent of all black Democrats saying they attend church at least once per week, 74 percent say they pray daily, and 76 percent say religion is "very important" in their lives.

So data that Pew reports for historically black Protestants seems to be a reasonably rough sample of black attitudes in general.

When 36 percent identify as conservative, and when 27 percent say government assistance to the poor does more harm than good, yet on average, 88 percent of blacks are voting for Democrats, something is amiss.

Voting Democrat is not written in black genes. From 1936 to 1960, the black vote for the Republican presidential candidate averaged 30 percent. In 1956, 39 percent of blacks voted for Dwight Eisenhower.

Black voting behavior has far reaching implications, as America changes demographically into a country less and less white. In 1980, 88 percent of voters were white. In 2016, 70 percent were. This trend will continue.

In a new Harvard-Harris Poll, 33 percent of blacks say they are now "better off" in their financial situation and 32 percent of blacks approve of the way Trump is handling the economy.

Republican Party outreach to blacks has ratcheted up considerably since the Obama years.

If Republicans can succeed in courting these church-going black Christians, we could see a political realignment in the country that will change profoundly America's political landscape.

The party with the promise of the most free stuff will get the vote. (And that’s a promise in a political sense.)

The number of blacks that will vote for a “Republican” political party, one focused on individual liberty and responsibility, limited government, and the free market, will never be more than a portion of the black population with IQs over 100.

Those sub-100s will be non-competitive in a “Republican” world, and blacks in America have adopted, as a core belief and crutch, the existence of “systemic white racism” as the cause of their failure to compete economically. As such the only blacks who would consider a Republican worldview are those who will have succeeded, and those will be limited to those with “competitive” IQ levels.

So for the next 100 years, Republicans have a ceiling of 15-20% of the black electorate, roughly guesstimating.

Even if we get only one or two voters, it’s not a waste of time. Next time there may be more, etc. But writing blacks off all together is a waste of voters.

The dems would be nuts to run anyone for 2020 but a black candidate, preferably male. The difference in black turnout between Obama and Clinton wins the 2016 election for the dems.

This is a good thing, repeating the mantra about blacks voting Republican. Let it saturate the public consciousness until it becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy.

We do have the advantage with President Trump. He doesn’t exude Monopoly Man essence (Romney) and he is despised by the elites.

Think about it: If Obama were 100% white, his speech and mannerisms would be offensive to a large portion of the black community.

But with President Trump, he has that rebellion chic going for him.

With 15% of the black vote, Republicans win. If they get 20%, it spells doom for the ‘rats, at least for a while. Until the Republicans nominate another Monopoly Man.

Well, I forgot Allen West, but ever since he cut a deal with Rubio I don’t trust the little swamp dweller.

The writer of this article is, Star Parker, the former welfare recipient, that got off the system then became a conservative when she started to realize that the system is a set up.

She's been writing about this for years, yes, but she just might be making some headway. Especially when you consider the arrival of Kayne West and that other young woman who's been speaking out, I think her name is Cameron. The voices are starting to come forward to point the community in a different direction and this is a really good development.

These stats and the lowest unemployment in the last 40 years in the black community under Trump WILL have an impact positively for republicans... they are waking up finally IMHO.

And reading her stuff on Twitter has been amazing. She’s an incredibly bright young woman and honestly, we need more like her. Black, white, hispanic, Asian, young female and articulate. Her skin color is the last thing to think of when you are reading her stuff. When you see some of the disgusting slurs from her leftist Regressive detractors, it’s been pretty incredible to watch. How DARE one of theirs escape the plantation???

Exactly. Voices like Candice Owen's are helping a part of Our American community to break the chains of the carpetbagging, libtard, regressive masters from the democrat communist plantations that seek to enslave us all regardless of color, race, religion, or gender.

Candice is also working to help free our young minds as well from the indocturnation of our socialist educational system and showing them the way to defy their hate rhetoric and learn to think freely for themselves again.

She's a testament to what freedom looks like when we remember that we are ALL part of this American Family and the only limitations that block our path are the the ones we allow to be placed in our way.

A large portion of blacks are naturally Repubican. The dems stole the with welfare. It is time for blacks to escape the democrat plantation and come home to the Republican Party.
