The reactions will only continue as the week goes on after President Donald Trump disinvited the Eagles to the White House a day before the Super Bowl champions were scheduled to visit (see story).
Politicians with local ties made their voices heard Monday night, while the president also sent out a tweet restating his stance behind the decision (see story).
Some current and former NFL players also chimed in on the news.
"I guess he was upset with the delegation we were sending," Eagles safety Rodney McLeod said of Trump's decision in a text message to NBC Sports Philadelphia's Derrick Gunn.
Former Eagle Torrey Smith, who played a key role in the team's Super Bowl run, tweeted:
There are a lot of people on the team that have plenty of different views. The men and women that wanted to go shouldve been able to go. Its a cowardly act to cancel the celebration because the majority of the people dont want to see you. To make it about the anthem is foolish— Torrey Smith (@TorreySmithWR) June 4, 2018
So many lies smh
Here are some facts
1. Not many people were going to go
2. No one refused to go simply because Trump insists folks stand for the anthem
3. The President continues to spread the false narrative that players are anti military pic.twitter.com/89GUNhJ4eE— Torrey Smith (@TorreySmithWR) June 4, 2018

What a deep thinker Mr. Long is.
If they weren't going then why the knickers in such twists when the event is yanked ? Bunch of rich boys acting like kindergarteners. If you don't plan to attend an event then there's no such thing as being disinvited.
It's to be expected when you wear thouse tight gay NFL pants, and take it up the bung from Zerobama...
Chris "Licking Zero's Schlong" Long will get enough concussions to shut his big mouth permanently soon enough...
Wonder what happens when his wife finds out she's a beard?
Probably will find out when his brains start leaking out from repetitive concussions, and she starts having to change his diapers at 37 years old.
Other thoughts on @POTUS uninviting SB Champion #Eagles to White House. Since almost all players didnt want to go ppl should let it go. Right or wrong, let it go. Sports is suppose to be diversion from problems. Then one term @PhillyMayor and Senator Bob Casey make it political.— Howard Eskin (@howardeskin) June 5, 2018
More than 80% of the team was not going to attend. They made their statement and Trump made his. The GSW should not even be invited.
The president should host a garden party inviting sergeants who serve in front line combat units, on the day the Eagles are scheduled to visit. Send a pic to the Eagles.
Idiots who refuse to stand for the flag and our National Anthem calling the President of the United States “unpatriotic”. ROTFL! The drug problem in this country is worse than we thought. Either that or the concussion thingy has done severe damage to these people’s brains. If the president hadn’t cancelled this phony hero worship event, the idiots would have spent the day embarrassing him, his administration and the American people. President Trump pulled off the perfect preemptive strike, IMHO. Good job Mr. President. WINNING.
All it takes is for one, good Christian player to get picked in the first round and settle a contract for $250K/year, because, that’s a good living wage.
That will shut these clowns up REAL fast.
The players make a big deal of their not attending. So the President withdraws the invitation. And now they’re upset?
IIRC, NFL TEAMS consist of about 53 players.
10 were only going to the White House—less than 20% of ‘the Team’.
They won the Super Bowl as a TEAM. IF they are not going to go to the celebration as a TEAM, I would cancel the party also.
Trump’s party-—Trump’s rules.
At least Trump knows where he stands, and so do the voters.
The NFL is committing the slowest suicide on record.
I've always wanted to know how many NFL players know that "Hands Up, Don't shoot" was a lie offered as a defense / excuse to accuse the police of misconduct. I'll wager almost none know this.
I suggest invitations to any Eagle players who wish to visit., individually, and unofficial, but the obligatory WH champions visit is tired and no longer special. imho. Time to kill it.
I’ve moved to what I think is the proper solution to all this liberal caterwauling about race, income inequality, LGBT-whatever, big bad Oil, climate change, etc. etc. etc.
Don’t react, ignore!
Dammit, wrong thread.
The players are not upset. The Eagles never knelt.They-some of them-don’t like the President. The Press is upset.
Democrats putting out false reports this morning that no member of the Eagles took a knee last year. That is a lie. Lefty Chris Long took a knee the minute his hero Colin Dumperdink started his BS. And many other did.
Colleges graduate football players who can’t read. This is the result: Ignorant idiots.
Did any of these intellectual geniuses criticize the players who refused the invitation? They probably praised their courage. Just reinforcing the stereotype of the dumb jock.
