The Trudeau government is looking into whether it should regulate imitation firearms following three Toronto incidents which saw police shoot and kill men brandishing relatively harmless guns.
Dr. Dirk Huyer, Ontario's chief coroner, alerted federal Justice Minister Jody Wilson-Raybould and her officials to the cases, which led three coroner juries to recommend Ottawa revise the Criminal Code to help prevent such fatalities.
The minister confirmed in a letter last month to Huyer that the department is reviewing proposals to tighten controls on look-alike weapons that police often have no choice but to treat as genuine.
A spokesman for the minister, Simon Rivet, told CBC News that officials are "examining the recommendations" and consulting on them with Public Safety Canada, which also helps set Ottawa's gun policies.

...I didnt read where any of them pointed a gun at the cop. Just brandishing a fake gun is now a death sentence...
Liberals must create laws to prevent every stupid thing people might do. Look for a ban on hotdog eating contests when someone e chokes to death on one during a contest.
Okay. They responded to someone pointing a weapon at them. They get to shoot first and ask questions after. What do you think would happen to you if you did that?
What would happen to me?
If I was a cop... probably nothing.
If I were pointing a toy gun at a cop, I’d probably get shot, too.
Your point?
Rimfire, no magazine limit. Centerfire, ten rounds.
But if you,a private citizen, gunned down a 15 year old carrying a pellet gun ,expect to be charged ,your weapon confiscated, and BIG legal fees at the very least.
Canadian law limits AR magazines to 10 rounds.
My mistake, I thought we were still limited to 7 rounds as originally written in NY.
My AR platform rifles are at a second house 20 miles away in PA. where they are not subject to the Follies of the MORON Cuomo.

Remember how when the crook threw his empty gun at Superman that the Man of Steel always ducked?
Of course.
I think there’s several issues that have to be considered.
First and foremost, there’s situational awareness. If either a private citizen or a policemen gunned down a 15 year old with a pellet gun who was simply shooting bottles in his backyard, it would be criminal.
But, if in the heat of a potential felony—i.e, arrest situation or home invasion, someone shot the wielder of a pellet gun pointed at the shooter, it should be considered self-defense.
It’s also true that cops are far more likely than a private citizen to get the benefit of the doubt.
It all depends.
The point of my post is that, a person with a pellet gun should be extra careful about it being perceived as a real gun. Just as a CCW holder has to be careful that his intentions while carrying aren’t misinterpreted.
Guns aren’t banned, but they’re trying. We have lots.
Okay. They responded to someone pointing a weapon at them. They get to shoot first and ask questions after. What do you think would happen to you if you did that?
There is more investigation of citizens, to make sure there were not other motives (love triangle, etc.) but the justifications are the same.

Superman just stood there while the guy was shooting; when he ran out of bullets he threw the gun at him and Superman ducked.
The perps wanted the observers to believe they had real guns, therefore for all intents and purposes they WERE real guns.
But Liberals/Progressives/Socialists/Communists always punish the innocent and reward the guilty.
I agree. What we are seeing is natural selection at play here.
They can regulate imitation firearms but they can’t regulate stupidity. It’s not the gun it’s the user.
Just arm all police with BB guns. Only in pink or orange so you don’t scare anyone.
AFAIK the NY SAFE act limiting magazines to seven rounds was suspended due to the lack of available magazines.
No. What would happen to you if you shot someone who pointed a bb gun at you?
